Friend W and I are off in about an hour to our little cathedral city of Ripon, about twenty miles south of here. We shall first of all go to the award winning restaurant Lockwood's for a spot of lunch, and then - the purpose of our visit - we shall go to the cathedral to see The Great Northern Art Show, which is on every year at this time. It showcases Northern artists and is always well worth a visit.
Of course one cannot take photographs and I know from past visits that long range views of the cathedral itself are extremely difficult as it is surrounded by buildings. But I shall do my best to give you a taster of our day out - even if it is only a photograph of my lunch to whet your appetite! Back later.

- I am a widow for the second time - first marrriage 39 years, second marriage 23 years - both very happy. My second marriage was to a farmer and when he died the farm was sold. I now live in the nearby small town on the edge of Wensleydale in The Yorkshire Dales. My beloved Border Terrier died a couple of years ago - I still miss her but as I am 90 and need carers I shalln't get another I have one son,who lives nearby with his wife, three grandchildren, one step grandchild, two great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren..Life is good.

Your plans for today sound wonderful. You'll have the 20 minute drive though beautiful views, and then see an exhibit of artists who've been inspired by beautiful places. And of course...the stop for lunch will be fabulous, too.

Well you should be home by now, so I hope you enjoyed the outing, and that the art work was worth seeing.
I like to think of you going out for a meal. It makes me feel better about sitting here feeling deadly boring cooking a piece of lamb and some Aunt Bessies.
Would love to see photos of your meal. Our lunch was emergency rations of mac and cheese from a box because I was too tired to cook. Very sad, I know. Dinner will be better since Dennis is cooking his delicious turkey burgers.
