That pudding.

Well, there you are!   Here is the rhubarb and apple betty I promised the farmer for lunch today - it was Lyndsey Bareham's recipe in The Times yesterday.

I did a very small first course (beans on toast with a poached egg on top) followed by this pud with custard.   I am afraid it was far too rich for me.   I have trained myself not to eat sweet food and this was sweet - also it has quite a bit of butter in it.  The farmer loved it, so there is plenty left for him for the next two days.   But, as I am sure you will agree, it certainly looks good.

Maybe I worked a bit of my helping off at our exercise class this afternoon - our tutor S took us out into the garden after the class and we all had a cup of tea sitting in the sun.   There were two sorts of biscuits (the lady who usually makes lovely small cakes is quite poorly at the moment - we all sent her best wishes for a speedy recovery) and I am pleased to say that I even resisted the biscuits.

Tess was left with the run of the house yesterday afternoon when I went to see friend M for the afternoon.   When I returned she greeted me very effusively - calling, wailing and crawling along on her stomach (most unusual) and I quickly found out the reason why.   She had weed a large patch on the hall carpet.   I attacked it immediately but I fear it will have left a stain.   I had taken her for a walk before I went and had seen her do lots of wees - so I presume it was maybe the stress of being left alone (I quite often leave her when I go shopping etc).  Whatever the reason, it now means I shall have to put her in her 'cage' when I go out without her.  I take her whenever I can but there has to be a limit.  I feel sorry for her because she is so ashamed.   Has anyone any ideas about why she should suddenly do such a thing?

The air is full of the sounds of bird calls - curlews in the fields and cock pheasants in the garden are the loudest - but I can tell you that breeding is in full swing here.

I forget how old Tess is ? It could be anything. She could not just be not feeling well or if it keeps up you will have to take her to the vet for tests. When thehamish starting weeing and drinking lots of water meant he did have diabetes, bladder and liver problem.
He is really sick today and I am trying to decide to take him to the vet right now.

cheers, parsnip

I am also wondering how old she is...My dog began having these problems and I took him to the vet fearing he had diabetes. Turned out he did not, but it is something that happens to older dogs and the vet had me change his diet to one I make myself which has less protein in it and the problem disappeared.

Oh Weaver, she does need a visit to the vet. I saw one like Tess recently at the vet and she had 40 stones in her bladder. She was hopping around and ready to leave that place. My own dog, recently diagnosed with diabetes, was peeing all over the house which was most unusual. It happened suddenly and I was very surprised. So a good checkup is recommended,

That pudding looks fabulous. Fortunately, too rich for me, too. Sweets put my stomach in a turmoil, fortunately.
I agree, if Tess' accident is out of character a trip to the vet could be in order.

It's been said already - but take her to the vets. It could be kidney problems, might be some sort of bug - but get her checked out.

As for the pudding..... don't tempt me. (Or I might need a trip to the vet's!)

Looks a bit too sticky and rich for me as well! Like your exercise classes if you get tea at the end!

I feel I could do justice to that pudding; it looks wonderful.

I would have needed an after dinner nap after beans on toast, a poached egg, and your pudding and custard. No way could I have gone out to an exercise class!

That pudding looks delicious and my rhubarb is ready for cutting. Poor Tess - they do hate letting us down and having an 'accident'. I hope she is not ill.

Oh, poor girl. A trip to the vet is a good idea just to make sure nothing is physically wrong with her. I had a cocker spaniel that had trouble holding his bladder after he was about 12 years old. We got a baby gate for our dining room (linoleum floor-easy to clean) and put his doggie bed in there and that was where he stayed when we had to leave the house for more than an hour or two. He still had lots of room, and when he had the occasional accident it was no big deal to clean it.

That rhubarb recipe looks yummy but probably too rich for me.
Poor Tess, the occasional pee on the floor should not necessarily be an illness, perhaps something frightened her.

Thanks for all the vet advice. I am inclined to agree with Thelma at the moment, but if there are any more 'episodes' I shall certainly resort to the vet.
