A New Hub

How fortunate that a very computer literate friend should coincide with the arrival of my new computer hub!   Within ten minutes D had the old hub disconnected and the new one up and running.  If I had been on my own when it arrived I would just have got the box opened in that time - it really was the most complicated arrangement and as I needed the box to return the old hub it had to be opened carefully.   So very sincere thanks to D for making it all look so easy.

I think this is Winter's last serious fling.   It is bitterly cold, there is a strong wind blowing and one minute the sun is shining and the next there is a snow blizzard.  It is a good day for staying in and I am doing just that - the wood burner is going merrily, I have a new book to read, there is enough food left for lunch without me preparing anything and my new tumble drier is taking care of the guest room bedclothes.

Looking at the week's weather forecast there does seem to be sun shining to some extent every day.  As our house faces due South this means that it warms up nicely and it also means that the solar panels are working and providing us with some electricity.   But I can do without the snow showers in between thank-you.

Sounds very cosy and suitably acres guests.
My apartment is always semi clean and food filled when we have had people over.
I wonder what you are reading?

I have told the weather that it must pull it's socks up next week as it will be March and time for spring! Today has been horrible - hail, sleet, snow and a very cold wind. You sound well organised and snug - enjoy the new book.

Some things you speak of give me pause Weaver......lol Your country seems to be much more advanced than ours in some respects... I hear you speak of often about ordering online and having groceries delivered... I have heard of it here in the US but i don't think its in widespread use or available that much....

Then today you speak of solar panels... Sure i see some houses with solar panels on top but truly even here in the sun capital of CA i don't see too many. They are pretty expensive...... so its just interesting to see what has caught on with your country that is not truly here yet....... Hugs~deb

I must have missed it but I didn't know you had solar at your farm. Your Farmer is very forward thinking.
I am somewhat shocked, not sure where @jinxxgirl lives in California but where I used to live in Southern California whole subdivisions where being built with Solar.
Here in Tucson, Valley of the Sun, we have solar panels going up everywhere. I am looking into it for my home but I want to make sure I get the best company for the job. They give tax rebates in Arizona also.
Plus 2 Markets in my neighborhood deliver groceries.

I still don't understand the lunch, dinner, supper, tea name extravaganza. @Cro just had a post about this the other day and I am still so confused.
In most of America it is breakfast, lunch and dinner or supper.
Hey it is food come and get it. And out here in the Southwest just ring that chow bell. yea haw !
We are so funny !

cheers, parsnip

Parsnip - it varies here too.
On the farm we have our main meal at what I call lunch time and the farmer calls it dinner. He needs a good meal then as he is working outside most of the day.
So for us it is breakfast, dinner, high tea (usually something on toast, or sandwiches, or maybe home made soup,) and finally just a warm bedtime drink for supper. All very confusing as a lot of people eat dinner at night - but some of them call that meal supper.
I think your South West chow bell hee haw is probably the best idea.

Parsnip i live in Northern CA and i do see some solar panels on houses in my housing development but honestly not that much... And the last time i looked into it (it has been a few years) they were still pretty expensive... I'm glad to hear they are more widespread with you. Its a direction we need to go in my opinion...

I have not looked into delivering groceries to the house... but i imagine it would cost more for that service . I do not see it advertised in my area ... I wonder how much extra it costs??? deb

I'd be the same as you - but luckily for me, husband is a techie. He'll just suddenly decide to change hubs, routers, wiring etc, just to see if it works better and then change it all back again. Me, once it's up and running, I don't touch it!

Parsnip; let's just stick with breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Had lunch-ladies been called lunch-ladies instead of dinner-ladies we would all know where we are!

Thanks for that advice Cro - absolutely right.
I am personally not a lady who lunches - can't stand the idea!
