What to write.

What to write on this, the last day of being 81 and the last post before my two-thousandth, when the weather outside is truly Autumnal, with heavy mist and damp air.   The sun is just visible behind the cloud cover, so I have every hope that by the time I go to the hairdresser at 1pm., the sky will have cleared and we will be having a glorious sunny day like yesterday (ever the optimist).   And after the hairdressers I shall be off to the last class on 'The Art and Literature of the British Countryside' - how I have enjoyed it, and how sad to see it over.   In between, if I have time, I shall pop into the supermarket to buy some ingredients so that I can make today's Lindsay Bareham recipe at the week-end.

If you don't take the Times, do go to it on line and look at her recipe for Porky Pie - it sounds delightful - two layers of cheesy mashed potato and between them a layer of minced pork, apple, onion and herbs.

Yesterday's Poetry meeting was good, as usual.   Eleven of us yesterday and with a really good selection of poetry being read aloud.   How much better it sounds, and how much more understandable it is, when read aloud.   Edward Thomas, Robert Frost, Roald Dahl, Carol Ann Duffy, John Betjamen, Edmund Blunden, and many more - something for everyone's taste.

Lunch calls -at least putting the jacket potatoes into the Aga calls - how I love them (and how the farmer doesn't) .   Luckily there are enough new potatoes left from yesterday for him to have.

The sun has burst through and is flooding the hall as I write - can't be bad.

It sounds like you have a lovely day planned. I hope the weather turns (and stays) nice for you!

So close to Halloween perhaps some Poe should have been read at your poetry meeting.. :) Today i think i will put some spaghetti sauce in the slow cooker. Won't that smell lovely when hubby walks in the front door this afternoon.

Some workers are coming this morning to measure the marble in my shower. It has cracked twice now in this brand new home. Crazy. It is not real marble but some type of faux marble. Still it should not crack. But i shall allow myself a cup of coffee or two before i get busy straightening the bathroom for their visit.

I hope you enjoy your last day of being 81. I hope the weather is kind and everything you want it to be. We are expecting rain tomorrow . Woohoo!!! After so long with out it we can't help but be happy about that. :) Hugs! deb

Sounds like you have had a nice day and hopefully your birthday will be the same. The Porky Pie sounds DELISH, I tried to look the recipe up but it's only available to subscribers. You'll have to be our taste tester. Please let us know how it turns out.

Aren't we fortunate being born under Scorpio and having this enchanting time of year as our personal season. I'm still celebrating my birthday of the 26th - was gifted by hubby with another beautiful Yotam Ottolenghi cookbook yesterday - 'Plenty More' - so have veggie recipes to try for the many coming years!!!

I wish I could have joined that wonderful class - it must have been so interesting. Will they do another later -perhaps in springtime?

Dear Pat, enjoy today, revel in and be spoilt tomorrow. Congratulations on both the birthday and the 2000th post - all I have read have been special and I thank you for bringing
me many wonderful memories of home.

Sending love and more sunshine.

Hiya Pat!
I scrub the jackets and they are possibly my favorite part. Ray only eats the center out. Nothing like baked potatoes -so dry and light and fluffy.

So pleased for a nice sunny day, although it must be getting ready to get dark by now.

Are you having a decadent chocolate cake or something equally delicious on the morrow?

See you then, Lord willing and the creek don't rise. I am off to sew a rodent now. Joanie wants to be a mouse for Halloween. He mother is out of sewing commission since she mangles/broke the tip of her left index finger in the wood splitter. Hence, I will be sewing a rodent this afternoon! :) m & jb

It is sad when a much loved course comes to an end. Hopefully there will be another one to catch your attention. That recipe sounds delicious and just right for cooler days, though it has been so mild here today.

Hi Pat, as it's your birthday and it is also the 31st October I will give you a Druidic present. If you don't want it you can pass it on. Go out and collect 10 ivy leaves. Throw one away. Place the other 9 under your pillow tonight. Yo will have prophetic dreams. I'm sure they will be good ones. Enjoy!
