October

As Ronald Blythe says, there are one or two days in every month when, even if you had woken up from a long sleep, you would know exactly what month it was.   Today is going to be one of those days - or so it seems.

It is only nine o'clock in the morning but the sun is breaking through a thick mist.   When I got up at 5am (couldn't sleep, another story) and looked out of the bedroom window, there was thick mist swirling but I could see a sliver of crescent moon through the mist.

Where the sun is breaking through it is a deep golden colour, almost as deep and golden as the leaves on the young beech trees up the sides of the Lane.  The said lane is ankle-deep in dead and dying ash leaves, which always fall well before the beech here.   And everywhere there are Autumny smells - dying foliage,  the sharp smell of the rotting, maturing manure heaps every few fields (not an unpleasant smell at all now that it has been spread out), the smell of newly ploughed earth.

And, of course, in the garden there are the last few flowers - the rudbeckia, the schyzostlyus, the crocosmia - and that most poetic of all - the last few roses of Summer; and this year there are a lot of them.

Yes, it couldn't possibly be any month but October; and in all its glory today.   I shall forget about the Winter coming on because October always makes me happy.   It is after all my birthday month and always makes Hallowe'en special for me.

So enjoy your October day if you are getting a good one too.   Alright, it might go and spoil itself later, but I shall enjoy it while it lasts, go and have a shower and go off to meet the 'girls' for coffee as I do every Friday.

The sun is shining here too Pat and two of my girls are joining me today so I don't even have to go out to meet them. Your description of your surroundings is so evocative - I feel as if I can see them myself.
Enjoy your day.

It's my birthday month too, and I love it. The picture outside the window changes every day, even in the rain!

Oh i hope you do have a beautiful October day and nothing comes along to mar it. The temps here have cooled dramatically the last week or so and the mornings and evening definitely feel Autumn-like.....The leaves here finally give up the ghost not by turning brilliant beautiful colors but by turning brown. The lack of rainfall finally takes its toll this time of year as the rains have not yet come.....But everybody waits and hopes that this will be the year that the rains return. They've been missing for the last three years....And we need it ever so badly. The talk of an El Nino weather system brings us hope...... it could mean rain for us....alot of rain...
Enjoy your day Weaver... I still have another cup of coffee with my name on it then i will get busy too. Hugs! deb

I also love Autumn, and after our very hot summer it is a joy.

It is a beautiful month and one to enjoy to the fullest before November brings melancholy days. I hope you enjoy all the brightness and the richness and the lovely smells of autumn, and that you have a pleasant coffee time with friends, Pat.

I love October, too! It's 72*F and sunny. But, alas, I am sick in bed. Three in the afternoon and first time I don't feel absolutely wretched since yesterday at this time. Oh, well! The french door and window are open and I can hear the lovely outside sounds. That's the thing I dislike most about winter -it isn't the dark or the cold as much as it is having to keep the windows shut and feeling boxed in. Still, it's beautiful today!

I liked your Six Word comment, too!

We have rain again today - but sunshine promised for the weekend - and the snow geese are back so we will be out looking for them in the green fields.

So you have a Halloween birthday, too. So did my brother. We'll sing to you, too.

It's a beautiful month but always tinged with sadness for me because it's when we lost my Dad. His funeral was on just such a day.

Thanks for the visit. Weather still holding fair here. The farmer is going made with the shears and secateurs in the front garden. Bulbs laid out ready to plant.
