Was it the culprit?

Sorry there was no post yesterday and today's is very short, but we are busy in the run up to my Grand-daughter's wedding tomorrow - all very exciting.

But here is a conundrum for you - see what you think.

Friends S and T have a wild life camera in their garden - I think it was first put up to record blue tits nesting - but it is in use all the time and takes a shot every five minutes.

One night last week there was a shot of a dark shape which looked like a hedgehog on the lawn and in the same shot was a cat.   Next morning T found the hedgehog in the same spot with its head bitten off.   They looked at the camera shots and no other animal appeared throughout the night.  So - did the cat bite off the hedgehog's head - or did another animal appear and do the deed in the space of those five minutes?  We'll never know - but raises an interesting theory doesn't it?   Round here we get so very many road kill hedgehogs - could there be cat kill ones too?   There are plenty of feral cats about round here, all looking for an easy meal.

No Uruguayan footballer came in shot, then?

That's sort of chilling, but I guess it's possible.

I wouldn't put it past a cat to be able to do that. We had a small black cat who dragged half a rabbit carcass home across a field and 'swore' at me when I tried to take it from her. It looked freshly killed and she took it into the coal bunker so I couldn't deprive her of it. The rabbit must have been larger than she was.
I do hope the weather stays fine for tomorrow, and that it is a lovely occasion for all of you.

Our sweet cat regularly catches rabbits, brings them into the house via the cat flap and takes them into the bathroom. Here she jumps into the bath with them so that the rabbit can't escape (they are always still alive!) and then eats their heads. She might go on to eat the rest, or leave the headless coney and set off for another. So yes, could be the cat !

Our Freddie eats Mouse heads; seems like they must be the tastiest bit. Maybe it's the same with Hedgehogs.

Sadly, knowing cats, I think you could well have found the culprit.

I hope your Granddaughter has a wonderful wedding day!

Oh yes the cat did it and under fire minutes, no problem.

Rant coming......
I know I will be a minority here but I despise cats being left to roam free. I understand if your on a farm the need for rodent control but
Feral cats are the worst and their population is constantly growing. The bird population is being decimated by cats. and with no birds to eat the bugs we are in deep trouble.
City people should never let their cats outside and as always they should be neutered.
Daughter worked for a clinic that would neuter feral cats for free. One active male can sire so many litters that have more litters. It is a never ending circle of illness and destruction.
End of rant....

Have a lovely time at the wedding.
cheers, parsnip

I'm with angry parsnip, sorry, being a dog lover, I can't let my dog go do his business all over everyone in the neighbourhoods gardens, I could??? but would probably get prosecuted. We didn't have any cats around until a few years back, 2 moved in and the place is overrun with them and they seem to like to leave a calling card on most peoples verges now. Hate that they take the birds too.
I hope you have a lovely day tomorrow, may just miss the rain :)

Oh dear, poor cats - they have come in for some stick here - probably well-deserved!
