I don't care for radishes at all, but the farmer likes them, so today we tried some of these giant radishes which have grown very quickly in the garden.  After trying one with a ham sandwich at tea time I must say that I like them even less now.  But  they are very pretty colours.

My mobility is sorely tested by a very bad arthritic ankle.  I have been visiting the specialist for over a year and he has finally told me that short of fusing my ankle so that it is rigid, there is nothing to be done, so he has signed me off and I have to put up with it.

So today, in a last ditch stand, I have started a course in acupuncture with one of the G P's in our local medical practice.
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medical art which involves inserting fine needles at certain points.   I had six needles into my foot and ankle, none of them where the swelling was - all of them, according to my doctor, were on meridian lines, which go back to  ancient Chinese medicine.  Well, we shall see.  I understand that around sixty percent of his patients find some relief, so I am hoping that I am one of that sixty percent. From the moment he inserted the needles there has been a tingling in my foot and ankle - hope that is a good sign.  Watch this space.

Gosh, I'm all behind like the donkey's tail, and need to catch up on my friends in blogland.

I don't care for radishes either, but those look pretty.

I enjoyed your post on old motherly superstitions, and I still abide by some of them (new shoes on table, no "May" in the house, crossed knives and all that. Spilt salt you throw over your left shoulder (the devil's one), and if you see a single magpie (we adapted this to ambulances too in our youth) you have to cross your fingers until you see a 4 legged animal or a man in uniform . . . Oh, and we never trod on the cracks in paving stones (don't ask me why, we just DIDN'T!)

The best thing about radishes is that they grow quickly and hope springs up early in the garden as well as the radishes!!!

I have heard of very good results with acupuncture and do hope that you are one that it favours, Pat!!!

Hi Pat.
I hope the acupuncture treatments give you some relief. I have been an acupuncturist for the past seventeen years.

I hope your new treatment is more satisfactory than radishes. I don't care for radishes myself, but watch them devoured with relish by others at the table.

Yummmm... radishes with salt or butter. I just eat mine. I found a radish that looks like a watermelon when you slice it so I am trying to find some seeds. Sometimes I give them a quick pickle like onions and they taste less bitter.

I have had acupuncture off and on for years. I must say I don't think it helped me but I would give it a try if I were you. You never know. Fingers crossed.

cheers, parsnip

Do hope the acupuncture will work. Would an elasticated ankle support bring some relief, or have you tried everything?
I like radishes as long as they are not the very peppery ones. Those multi-coloured ones look so pretty.

Radishes do tend to 'repeat', as my aunt used to say.

Good luck with your ankle, Weave.

The radishes you grew are pretty, and we like them at our house. I hope the acupuncture works for you; I am a skeptic.

I have acupuncture for Lupus SLE - to turn down the pain in flares and to keep stress levels down. It really helps me, so fingers crossed for you! Jean

Oh I adore radishes - sliced on bread and butter (they must be very cold for this), cut up in potato salad, in green salads and just plain - I love them all kinds of ways. We got some of those giant, brightly colored ones this week - organic and so delicious.

I hope your acupuncture works - we have fabulous results with it and have regular appointments just to keep tuned up.

My step-aunt was in a horrible car wreck many, many years ago. She was almost crippled from the pain from the wreck. Using a walker (she was 50 at the time)...then one day she went to an acupuncturist, just to relieve the pain.

She starting walking after three treatments and doesn't have any problems today 30 years later.

Radishes are very good for ankles (no they're not).

Rather like Homeopathy, I don't think that acupuncture does any good whatsoever. It's more the hoping that it will that helps; if in fact it does. But I wish you well with it anyway. Sorry.

Yuk to radishes and yuk to arthritis too ! Hope all those needles do some good. Have you tried hydrotherapy, it worked wonders on my friend's knee so it might help ankles too ?

I'm not too fond of radishes but I can handle one sliced thinly into a mixed salad.

I hope the acupuncture helps. I know someone who swears by it for back trouble, so fingers crossed for you.

Good luck with the acupuncture. I sometimes use a cream with greenlip mussel concentrate and lavender on my ancient runners knees and take a Doppel Herz glucosamine mg 700 with 50 mg chondroitin for 2 weeks when I have any pains.

Well, more plus than minus on the acupuncture front, so we shall see. Thanks for the encouragement anyway - I'll keep you posted.
