This morning, as usual, a group of us met for coffee in our little market town. We do this every Friday morning and it is such fun.
This morning friend W suddenly came out with the statement: "Somebody's pinched my kazoo!" W plays in several ukulele bands and is a good musician. She sometimes has occasion to play the kazoo and hers has gone missing, much to her frustration.
This made us all laugh as it seemed such a good line for the title of a silly song or poem. So the group suggested that I write one. So here it is W - hope you like it (and the rest of the group if they are reading this).
The Missing Kazoo.
Somebody's pinched my kazoo!
I feel it just might have been you.
I'm quite a musician
and it created a frisson -
- a shiver that seemed to run through.
It's easy to spot 'cos it's blue.
In the shop there were only a few.
When you'd all gone for a fag
I searched every bag
and every coat pocket too.
So now my buzzer is gone.
I hope it's gone to a good home.
But when the uke band's about,
they'll miss it no doubt.
Meanwhile I'll play paper and comb.
If anyone finds a blue kazoo - you know who it belongs to.

love your kazoo poem...and your blog. Hugs
Loved it!....especially the verse about going through pockets and bags! That's the sort of line that makes a silly poem a smile-maker!
Hilarious poem, and I do hope her kazoo is found.
Lol .... Such fun, Weaver. I'm sure your friend will love it.
The Blue Kazoo is a good title too....In fact, I'm not mulling over a plot for a young adult novel to be titled The Mystery of the Blue Kazoo. Somehow, I feel it will be set in Egypt in the 1950s among the children who are accompanying their archaeologist parents on a dig. A sort of Kazoos along the Nile, or Pale Hands I loved Beside the Kazoo, to move the location a bit. A Spell of the Blue Kazoo of a book.
I think I'm having a contact high from a "silly poem maker"! Loved that poem!
Oh Pat, - you and Ogden Nash - love the rhythm. A Blue Kazoo, - sounds like a precious possession.
Hope it turns up soon and I love your poem. If I hadn't known what a kazoo was I might have thought a gentleman had been ungentlemanly!
Good one Pat! Brought a smile to my face - and it's Friday! lol!
What fun.
Son is cleaning out the garage... if we find a little blue kazoo I will be sure to mail it back. One never knows what will show up when looking through the boxes !
cheers, parsnip
Wallace Stevens has a famous poem about a man with a blue Blue Guitar - but maybe yours is the world's first poem about a blue kazoo!!!
I'm sorry I couldn't resist. Hope you don't mind!
There once was a young Yorkshire lass
They called the Weaver of Grass.
When the kazoo strayed from home
She created a poem
And hilarity soon came to pass.
Joan in kazooless Michigan
Such a fun poem, Pat! I really liked it.
Pam Ayres, reminds me of it does.
Oh that's lovely! I'll keep an eye out for it. :)
Thanks for your comments. There is definitely a title for a novel there as you say - The Mystery of the Blue Kazoo perhaps? My friend has bought a replacement - it is orange and cost £2. I shall not write a poem as not many words rhyme with orange!
Bravo! The Mystery of the Missing Kazoo. She needs Sherlock Holmes. At first, when I read "Someone pinched my Kazoo", I thought someone had pinched her in the bum!
ah come Pat on with the bardic establishmented ole ches'nut - you well know lotsawords rhyme with orange: cringe fringe binge singe whinge and even lynch and pinch rhyme with your new blue orange so you have no excuse not to write it - not an inch.
My friend has just e mailed me to say it is not orange but fluorescent - so sorry Gwil, can't put my mind to that. Thanks for calling to you all.
this made me laugh, great fun! Hope your friend finds her kazoo!
