Hazards in the fields.

This mnorning when the farmer was making his early round with Tess and Tip (the sheepdog), he found an enormous silver metallic blow-up balloon stuck in the hedge.   Already the cattle were pulling at it and investigating it.   Luckily it had not deflated.

If it had deflated then the cattle would probably have chewed on it and even eaten it - with probably fatal results.   Why are shops allowed to sell such dangerous materials (this seemed rather like an airship in shape) when they are such a danger to animals in the fields?

The same goes, of course, for those 'chinese lanterns' which land in the fields.   Cattle are curious animals and if there is any foreign body in the field, they will go to investigate.

I took a photograph of the offending object, but have still not worked out how to put such photos on under the new system.   I am sure my son managed to get me the old system back last time by clicking on 'classic' but sadly, I can't find the word!

And as the last time I spoke to him he was on top of Scafell Pike in the Lake District, it is pretty useless ringing him today.

I thought how lovely those Chinese Lanterns were until I realised how dangerous to animals they could be. Farmers have enough problems without collapsed balloons and other things littering the hedgerows. I hope Dominic has taken thermals with him - I have been so cold today even indoors and have just put the heating on.

Serious vigilance, not just for noxious weeds. That stuff will be sold as long as people purchase it, and there will be no changing that fact.

I have trouble with people who organise balloon races. They let hundreds of little rubber bags float off to any-old-where to drop to land and create problems for wildlife and livestock. But nobody will suggest making them illegal.

I removed three empty bottles of cider from the field the other day.... just flung over the hedge!

On the subject of computer problems:
Try changing your browser to Google Chrome. You'll find it faster and may solve your photo problem.
If not you can change it back.
Cheers

I hate to see balloons in the fields and trees - so dangerous for the wildlife.
I'm sorry I didn't know I was so close to you earlier this month. I'd hoped to connect - perhaps another time!

People often do not realise how dangerous balloons can be for animals. I also have a gripe about chinese lanterns; I watched one blow over, landing on the drive. A little further and it would have been a building roof, possibly causing a fire.

Thank you for visiting. I am glad you all agree about those balloons etc. and how dangerous they are. I don't think people think about it at the time. Do call again.

You're not the only one who isn't confident with the new blogger format - the old style seemed a lot more user friendly, although my daughter assures me that it won't be long before I forget what the old format was like and the new one becomes 2nd nature...

I'm not a fan of mylar balloons, either!

When I used to go out without enough warm clothes or rain protection (at an age when I was responsible) my mother always said, "where there's no sense, there's no feeling".

I really think balloons and Chinese lanterns should be banned. Well maybe we can allow small balloons for strictly indoor use but outdoors they're all a menace.
