A necessary chore.

Sorry chaps but this is a 'girly' post today. I have been putting the job off for weeks but I have done it this morning; I have cleaned out my wardrobe.

Anything I have not worn for a year but is still in good condition has gone into a bag and after lunch will make a short journey to the charity shop. Anything which I consider to be past its sell-by date has gone into the dustbin. Everything else has been sorted into 'outfits' - alright, I know that it will only be a week or two before I decide that that blouse goes better with those trousers etc. but I do get a good feeling when I see it all neatly ordered. All the Winter clothes have been moved to the wardrobe in the spare room.

Shoes have been cleaned and tidied and everything in the wardrobe is shipshape. Now there are just eight drawers of T shirts, blouses, jumpers, cardigans etc. to go! But not today. Enough is enough for one day.

Thinking about it though - maybe this is a chaps blog too. Now come along you chaps. How long is it since you sorted the wheat from the chaff in your wardrobe? If you are anything like the farmer there will be one or two very ify pairs of trainers lurking in the far corners and one or two pairs of trousers that haven't seen the light of day for a long time.

So chaps - if you do it - you could pin up a list of replacements you need for this Summer. In my case it is quite a short list - just a couple of pairs of jeans and possibly some sandals (that is apart from anything that tempts me) but then, men don't seem to have minds that work like this, do they?

And of course there is also the thorny problem of 'should I clean his wardrobe out for him?' What do you think?

I think I've been wanting to do this for about a year. I clean out after each season but I need a complete overhaul. I have way too many coats, especially for a girl who lives in the desert!
My husband has some stained tshirts and some with holes that I beg him to get rid of but he always says they are his chore clothes and back in the drawer they go. ugh.

Great post Pat - and yes, all the chaps need to read it too! Must admit I did do a partial wardrobe clean out prior to getting ready for this trip! But, more to do when I return - such as pack away heavy Winter clothing which I never even got to wear this past season, just too warm around here!

Off tonight via Heathrow - will arrive in Singapore Friday - such a long trip - and the Queen Elizabeth will be waiting!

Happy Spring dear - will try to keep up while away if I can afford the Internet service on the ship!!!!
Hugs - Mary

I try to do this once a year too, but have been delaying due to the refusal of spring to appear. As far as a man's closet goes - well, it's best left either completely undisturbed, or entered into with pith helmet, elephant gun and BIG bag.

I started to clean out my closet but have had to put it on hold... so I have a big piles of clothes to give away or throw away. I also cleaned out the drawers too but that is a whole other story... will find time this weekend to finish (I hope).
You have inspired me to finish !
I love my closet, it is a "walk in" and I have hung some art on the wall and a mobile is hanging from the skylight.

cheers, parsnip

I am determined to do the coat cupboard soon. I have a lot of jackets I've not worn for years.

On the subject of his wardrobe, I find I have most effect when I do the 'short intake of breath' when he puts something on!

If I don't clean out both wardrobes they don't get done. Yours looks so ordered it makes me feel ashamed. I've made a tentative start by chucking out a few things but need to get down to it seriously. My husband loves his old clothes - stains, darns, patches and all. After a working life wearing white shirts and dark suits he is now in his own sartorial heaven! He still has a white shirt and dark suit - just in case.

Bravo for you! Isn't it an empowering feeling too.

My wardrobe is rather small and I don't have a spare room (Mark keeps coming back and re-inhabiting his!), so I sort out my stuff on a fairly regular basis. having said that, I could do with a complete overhaul. I know that there are a few bits and pieces lurking in there somewhere.

No you should not. But if you don't, there will remain a huge pile of clothes thrown into a heap willy nilly that will remain undisturbed gathering dust and other unwelcome micro organisms, indefinitely..so you probably should!:)

Hope I have spurred a few people on.
Thanks for the comments.

My other half uses his floors as his wardrobe, I don't get involved.

I am so impressed! I'm hopeless at parting with things and at clearing and sorting out. I keep promising myself that i will have a really good session but it never happens.
