New Year's Day.

Is anybody else ready to get 'back to normal' - to get the fridge cleaned out, the last remnants of the turkey disposed of, the last few slices of ham put in a sandwich, the cards down, the tree away and peace on earth? Or is it just me?

I have really enjoyed all our friends and relations coming - I have enjoyed cooking gargantuan meals - I love cooking; I have enjoyed the conversations and the fun. But by this morning, after sitting up to see the new year in with seven friends and family I have been pretty much good for nothing today. I crawled back to bed after breakfast and slept for another couple of hours and then have dozed on and off since, apart from one last hour's chat with my grand=daughter before she goes back tomorrow.

I think it does us all good to relax and take things easy and to chat with our friends and relations but there does come a time when I want to get back to normal three meals a day at the correct times. And that time has come.

So here is to 2012 starting the day after tomorrow (tomorrow is a Bank Holiday) when all the mundane, ordinary things like bills coming through the post, washing needing doing etc. take over again. Happy 2012 to you all.

So true.
I was just thinking that this morning. For me all will be left up for today's New Years Day.
Tomorrow I will be dealing with too much paperwork and having to prove I am who I am so I can apply for Social Security.... @_@ Then start to clean up.
But we shall leave all hat for tomorrow. Today shall be quiet.

cheers, parsnip

Today is a big deal in the culinary department. Down south we all have to eat black-eyed peas and turnip greens. Peas for luck, greens for money. I'm not sure what happens if we don't do this and haven't the nerve to find out. So, I'm cooking today. Christmas usually stays up here till the 6th, but like you, this year I'm almost ready to remove it. I think it's the strange weather we've had the last several days, though. Very warm. High 60's. Tomorrow an arctic blast is predicted, bringing glacial temps, so I'll probably be grateful I left it all up for another few days.
Happy New Year to you!!

Yep, bills and washing will take over again. It was fun while it lasted. Rest up.

The answer is YES. And I need a vacation from my vacation--so does my poor dishwasher.

yes! I tried to take the tree down yesterday but was overruled. Looking forward to yogurt for breakfast and a nice salad. Happy New Year!

Amen to that! We even took the tree and decorations down today. I usually wait until Twelfth Night but used a lot of fresh evergreens this year and they were looking decidedly past their best.
I even went to bed at the usual time last night. I thought the New Year would manage quite well without me.

No, you are not alone, Pat. I crave normalcy and love the thought of waking up to just another day—no fanfare, no celebrations, just a plain and simple day.

I sometimes think I like taking the decorations down more than I like having them up; there's something about vacuuming the needles and washing down the paintwork that makes me feel crisp and fresh. And the house looks so spacious and bright once that last bauble has been packed away in the attic.

I wonder if there is some sort of correlation between blogging and wanting to take the decorations down - it seems to apply to us all!!!

I took all my stuff (just the tree this year) down on Saturday afternoon (31st) and looking forward to a return to normality.
