Clear January Days.

The sky has been clear blue all day today and the wind has shifted round to the North, bringing with it much colder air. Tonight it is scheduled to be frosty and much more wintry. But one of the assets of that clear sky was that the sunset tonight was absolutely stupendous. The whole sky was suffused with a deep pink. Sadly, for some reason, my camera will not take such shots - I am sure it is not due to the camera - I just have not learned the knack! We shall certainly look out tonight for the Aurora Borealis - such a clear sky would give us such a lovely view of it if it arrives.

Today has been a day with lots of visitors. I love days like that, when lovely conversations happen and lovely people call. Tess loves it too, especially as one special friend 'G' also brings with her Tess's two best friends - Milly and Jem - terrier cross and collie respectively. So G's arrival always means another walk.

Today Tess had a walk with the farmer and the farm dog at 8.15am, another with the farmer and me at 1.30pm, another with G and her two friends at 2.30pm and a final one with the farmer and the farm dog at 4.15pm. But more than that, she had what she always asks for (and always gets) - a mammoth cuddle from G. So here she is - resplendent in G's arms and enjoying every minute of it. That is one dog spoiled rotten I think you will agree.

Your photo shows pure joy !
What a wonderful day she had with all the walks.
I can no longer walk "The Boys" so I try to get son the help. Right now the Javelinas are around more from their summer in the mountains so we have to be on the look out for them.

I know what you mean about the camera and your pink sunset. My little point and click doesn't always show the correct colors sometimes. It is always the soft rosy pinks that seem to suffer the most.

Does Farmer use a lead when walking Tess ?

cheers, parsnip

I think with the camera you could do an experiment: take several different shots of the pink sunset using all the various settings, even the indoor and pets and people and portraits flowers and automatic and night settings and whatever else you may have and see which comes out the best - if may not be the one you expect.

It is such a hard life being a dog. I hadn't realised that the aurora borealis could be seen that far south. I do hope that you get lucky.

I have one of those spoiled dogs, and, frankly, I wouldn't have it any other way!

Such a happy, relaxed little dog. Tess obviously values your friends as much as you do!

Dear Tess - no wonder she gets a little spoilt. Lots of lovely walks don't really constitute spoiling.
Camera's can be contrary and I like to think it isn't always the photographer's fault. Mine doesn't like shades of blue or purple - they always turn out very wishy-washy.
Keep snug - I think most of us are in for a frosty night.

Isn't that what dogs are for? I hope you got to see the Aurora Borealis. Cheers

That cold front has now crept south and it's frosty and clear this morning here.
Try pointing the camera at the sky, half-depressing the shutter to get a meter reading, bringing the camera down to where you want to take the shot while keeping the shutter half-depressed, then "click" take your picture.

Try taking a photo through the lens of a pair of sunglasses. I'm told you get an interesting effect (that of a far more expensive filter).

If you are lucky enough to see the Northern lights I shall be so envious! I will keep my fingers crossed for you. x

One lovely, lucky dog - cuddles and walks make one perfect doggy day. We can try to imagine the sunset from your words.

Thank you for all the helpful comments on taking a photo of the sunset. I shall try them all out next time (probably tonight as it is such a lovely day).
