A Way with christmas Leftovers.

I found the perfect way to get rid of all those unwanted Christmas leftovers today. My two grown up grandchildren came to see me (both at University and home for the holidays) and stayed for a scratch lunch. Everything came out and I included a dish of chips. Now all that is left can be a beanfeast for the hens tomorrow - then I can get ready for my New Year's Eve party.

Yesterday the Aga functioned perfectly and was back to normal. Today it is a very wild day with storms and down it has gone again, so the problem seems to be the wind. The farmer is going to switch it off and have a look if it needs a clean, so fingers crossed it will be back on and working properly when I need to cook pheasant casserole, fish pie and vegetarian shepherd's pie for Saturday night. I reason that the pheasant casserole can be cooked on the hob anyway and the other two can be fully prepared and if necessary cooked in my daughter in law's over at the last minute. Ah the problems of being the head cook and bottle-washer.

Have a good New Year.

Please take a few photos... the fish pie sounds wonderful.
I have only had Pheasant once a super long time ago so I really can't remember ? Was the bird from one of Farmers shoots ?
My son makes a Indian fish stew that is so light and tasty it is my new most favorite dish.

Happy Happy New Year !

cheers, parsnip

Why do ovens etc., always go wrong just when you need them most? Do hope the farmer can sort it out for you.
Your New Year menu sounds delicious. We had pheasant breast on Boxing Day as there are just the two of us - it was very good, even if I say so myself.

Hope the Aga functions.
You are most ambitious in your cooking and entertaining.
I haven't even thought of fish pie for several centuries.
Now I want to make one.
Do you add hardboiled eggs to yours?
Hope you have a wonderful party.

Our Christmas leftovers in our house don't usually consist of things like turkey for example - we buy a crown which is just enough for the one meal. Our 'leftovers' usually consist of biscuits, chocolates, mixed nuts etc., none of which are good for the waistline.

Fish pie, how gorgeous, I haven't made, or had one for years.

You seem always to be entertaining, I feel quite envious.

Recipes and photos will be forthcoming. Aga cleaned out and switched back on again - hotting up at present - fingers crossed. Thanks for your concern.

We used to have trouble with our Aga whenever there was a really strong east wind blowing, the fumes would come back down the chimney and threaten to poison us and we would have to turn off the oil supply. It happened one Christmas morning when I had a house full of folk! Fortunately, enough heat remained in the oven and hobs to enable me to get the food properly cooked and served, but after that we had a special cowl fitted at the top of the chimney and it has improved the situation.
