A nice surprise.

We bloggers are a strange commmunity. Through cyberland we can become quite close as we gradually build up friendships with our chosen group of like-minded people; we don't really know each other at all apart from what we choose to put on our blogs or in the comments columns - and others have no proof that what we write is true anyway.

But as we wander through Blogland somehow some people become friends and others fall by the wayside; we recognise kindred spirits and a real sense of connection builds up. For example, meeting Elizabeth in New York a couple of years ago was one of the highlights of that holiday.

Since then I have met one or two 'local' bloggers and we have found that we have a lot in common. So it was a pleasant surprise this morning to get a call from Denise (Mrs Nesbitt's space) to say that she and her husband were about a mile down the lane and heading our way. Over a coffee we all found that we had indeed got a lot in common and could have talked all afternoon.

So thank you Denise for taking the trouble to call in. I hope it will be the first of many such visits - for friendship is what makes the world go round.

A lovely post Pat. So far I have only managed to meet one blog friend, and that meeting was far too brief. I live in hope.

I have met one blog friend, Kanani of "The Kitchen Dispatch" and we have continued our friendship off the blog page.
She is a writer and editor who runs a home, takes care of two teenagers, promotes the film "Restrepo" for National Geographic (nominated for an Oscar) her husband closed up his practice and now is a surgeon in the Army serving in danger.
I am overwhelmed by her strength and so happy I can call her friend.

Needless to say it was a great first blog meeting !

cheers, parsnip

I've met a handful of my blogger friends in real life and I just love making that personal connection. Hope to meet more at the BlogHer11 conference in August...are you going??

Amongst some of the people from blogland I have met, there are several who I can honestly say will be part of my circle of friends forever. I even know Denise - we met a few years back when I was journeying up North with my daughter to check out Universities . . . A lovely lady.

How lucky you are to live in a place other bloggers visit. LOL I think Havant is too far off the beaten track! :)

Some people think 'virtual' friends are not 'real' friends. I couldn't disagree more.

It harkens back to a time when people wrote their deepest thoughts in letters and journals...I think we end up knowing each other intimately!

Thanks for sharing your meet-ups...sounds like fun!

I accept that friends are going to come from many places - work, church, clubs, coffee shops and blogs. The possibility of a friendship is a wonderful thing.

I hope to meet up with a blogging friend in a few days. It's funny how we seem to gravitate towards people we are not only like but also enjoy.
Two years ago we met up with Rune in Norway. That was great fun.
