Arachniditis.

Earlier in the week Rachel (more about the song) suggested that we do a take on a well known childrens' story or rhyme. This was a suggestion for the Poetry Bus next week, but Enchanted Oak has managed to fill the spot herself, so Rachel's idea has been shelved for now.
However, I sat doodling in The Golden Lion this morning, over my coffee, while waiting for my friend to arrive and I came up with this. As it is not needed for the Poetry Bus on Monday I thought I would share it with you today:-

Why Miss Muffett is afraid of spiders.

Miss Muffett loved spiders,
she welcomed them down
to sit on her tuffet beside her.
She fed them on strawberries, sugar and cream
'Til one day a biggie espied her.

He strode boldly past her
and sat by her tuffet,
his eyes out on stalks
as he spied her.

"Get down from your tuffet,
you darling Miss Muffett," he said
as he sat down beside her.

"Come sit here with me,
consider if I'd be
a possible mate -
I'd like to debate
our sharing of work.
I'm not one to shirk;
my eight legs would surely work faster."
Miss Muffett looked down at his long, hairy legs
as he ran the suggestion past her.

Then with one leap and bound
she took off from the ground
(she couldn't have run any faster!)

So that's why this rhyme
stood the full test of time,
though the story is now quite hackneyed.
Once bitten, twice shy
is the good reason why
she has nothing to do with arachnids!

Have a nice, spider-free evening.

Well now I understand the nursery rhyme! Actually I don't mind spiders, apart from the big hairy ones, but I hate cockroaches. In Indonesia I was scared of them, when I was a child.

Lovely stuff Pat. I have never liked spiders but tried hard, without success, not to transfer my dislike of them to my daughters. Spiders with long hairy legs would certainly have me running too!

My neurotic SIL dislikes Spiders and has passed her fear onto her boys - such a shame but some people seem to be me me me!

How fun ..... spiders have never liked me! I also 'eat' the silver plating off my flute ~ maybe the two are connected?

A well told tale

I'm not nearly so neurotic about spiders as Robert who has a great big hole in his arm from a spider bite in Morocco........
hmmmmm............

That was terribly clever rhyming "faster" and "past her" - that got a chuckle out of me, Weaver!

Oh, yes, Weaver, this one is right up my alley - or should I say ceiling, nook, cranny and every othe danged cobwebby corner of Napple Mansions?! LOL :)

Wonderful reworking of an old favourite, Weaver! I'm in total agreement with Miss M! I also enjoyed catching up with your previous post and the super pics of your friends' quilts.

It seems that the world is divided into two kinds of people - those who are dead scared of spiders and those who tolerate them. I think I fall somewhere in between. Thank you for taking the trouble to comment.

'Little Miss Muffet' used to terrify me as a child. I'd have been much more comfortable with your version, Pat!
