It Raineth!

Yesterday we were huddled under a blanket of snow and fog. This morning the snowdrops, who were yesterday valiantly blooming through a dirty grey blanket are this morning standing with their feet in the water. From the look of the field opposite, which is more of a pond than a grass field, it must have been raining all night. And it is still raining heavily as I write. So for once the old adage that "rain before seven means fine before eleven" is not going to hold good unless it stops shortly. Charlotte Bronte put it even better, when she said

Life, believe, is not a dream,
so dark as sages say:
Oft a little morning rain
foretells a pleasant day!

But the rain is really most welcome, because it has dispelled the snow, which has hung about for days getting dirtier and dirtier. And with the rain has come what Robert Frost called "A Thawing Wind."

Come with rain, O loud Sou'wester,
bring the singer, bring the nester;
give the buried flower a dream;
make the settled snowbank steam.

The farmer is clad from head to foot in his rain gear and is splashing up and down the yard through giant puddles. Tess got wet through on her walk and indulged in a mad charging through the house half hour on her return. Conversely our water has been turned off as the builder is, as I write, fitting me a new sink in the kitchen.
And as to Robert Frost's "bring the singer", the blackbirds were singing merrily at daybreak this morning - a sure sign that Spring is going to win this battle.
Have a nice day.

Hope its not a case of 'water water everywhere, nor any drop to drink' while the sink fitter is at work!

You've created a vivid picture of the rain falling as a wet Tess darts about the house, the plumber installs the new kitchen sink and the farmer traipses through puddles - I can see it all!

The weather map for Sunday looks very threatening - I hope it's all a nasty mistake. We have sunshine at the moment and the birds are singing too. I have forgiven them for eating my yellow crocuses! I hope you soon get less water out of doors and more in the kitchen!

Greetings Weaver,
So glad the rain had melted your dirty snow. We have rain also, but it's a growing rain - warm and comforting like a gentle shake to awaken the flowers.
Spring does come - soon, soon.

There is a period of time between winter and spring that we should just call "Wet" or "Mud" ... Here after all the salt and sand spread on the roads in winter - spring can be a very dusty when its dry, and muddy when it rains, at its beginning.

You are seeing all the signs and reciting poetic phrases to confirm what your eyes see ... won't be long - you have surely had enough precipitation this winter!

Here it is hot and dry and we wait for autumn, dams drying and summer can seem endless.
Weaver I tried to put up a comment and got an error message, hope this gets through.

The blossom trees here are giving forth their pretty blossoms and I have eager daffs and hyacinths about to bloom in my garden. Just need a bit more sunshine, please. Enough with the wet and dreary stuff! We are on the same latitude as the UK I believe (Seattle, in the state of Washington,US). So far, we've been spared snow, but there is some in the forecast. Hopefully the white stuff will stay in the higher elevations.

I don't want to be a spoil sport but I'm hoping it rains for the next month to keep me in and working. I know if the sun shines I won't be able to stop myself from starting in the garden.

We are also awaiting rain in Melbourne, as we have had a couple of hot/warm days this week. It is quite overcast this morning - no sun - but pleasant. Enjoy your new sink.

What a soggy post Pat!! It rained here all day Thursday, or most of it. I think the ground is all pretty wet still as the puddles and wet fields soon returned. I would like some warm sun now please! I laughed at Tess dashing around indoors!! Buster does that sometimes!
