Skies

The farmhouse faces North to South, so that our sitting room and bedroom look over to the South and get sun for most of the day, whereas out dining room faces due North and gets no sun at all. But the windows I love most of all are our kitchen windows, which face to the West and therefore get the very best of the skies. This is especially true at this time of the year when our skies can be spectacular as the sun goes down. This week has been no exception. But catching them on a simple digital camera is another matter.
The two skies in the photographs were skies on Thursday and Friday of this week. The photographs were taken at more or less the same time, give or take five minutes. In reality the red sky at night (shepherd's delight!) was much redder and the mist was much mistier but I think the photographs just go to show that no two nights are ever the same. The sky as I write this is just a rather boring pale yellow - nothing spectacular at all. It seems to me that the more angry cloud there is about the better chance there is of spectacle.
Have a good weekend everyone!

Beautiful skies Weaver. We had a lovely sunset yesterday after a glorious day, but I was busy in the kitchen and didn't catch it in time for a photo. Another glorious day today but no colourful sunset.

Sunrise and sunset - the coming and the going - they've always been such inspiration. Here on the island we're the last to see the sun set over Canada - it's marvelous to see it disappear into the ocean.

Lovely photos... Beautiful skies.

I agree the digital camera is easy to use but the depth of photo is not quite the same.
I have been taking lots of cloud and sky photos and they never quite look the same. So easy to download though.

While skies never look as awesome as when seen through the naked eye, it's wonderful to be able to capture a facsimile so that we might enjoy them over and over. You have a lovely view, very peaceful and serene.

I find your comment on how the sky changes day to day most intriguing. Perhaps why we keep looking? I like the red sky.

I too have always been fascinated by the ever changing moods of the sky, particularly at dawn and dusk, when they are at their most spectacular.
I think we fail at times to understand that apart from the natural beauty, it was our earliest method of weather forecasting. Especially for those working at sea or on the land, whereby their lives and livelihoods depended on keen observation.

Beautiful sky shots Weaver. Nothing like a sunset to inspire one.

A beautiful sunset is a wonderful way to end a day. I'm so glad no two are ever the same!
