Meanderings

Yesterday I spent an hour with the physiotherapist dealing with various aches and pains - very painful it was too - but, as they say, there is no gain without pain, so I have high hopes of an improvement (there is already a slight one today.) Shortly after arriving home again a friend and I went to a special nature site quite near to here, where there are quite unusual wild flowers. Unfortunatly we were a fortnight too late and only already seeding plants were there. There had been swathes of thrift and scurvy grass, a smattering of orchids, rock roses, thyme - plants which don't really grow in our area but which were growing there for a certain reason. The area had been a lead mine and there were spoil heaps still around and these heaps had attracted plants. I took some photographs but thunder was threatening while we were there so we were hurried, and only after returning home did I find I had taken most of them in the wrong mode.

Later in the week it is the farmer's birthday and friends from The Netherlands are coming to celebrate it with us, so I am beginning to make preparations. This afternoon, after sitting out in the sun over a cup of tea, I feel just like Tess looks in the photograph - so this isn't a proper blog today bloggy friends. I apologise for that and shall hopefully think of something more erudite for tomorrow. In the meantime look how Tess has grown up (she is ball-mad) and enjoy the photograph of the avens going to seed. Up here there are wood avens and water avens and even a hybrid of the two. I don't know which this is - but the farmer calls this plant Soldier's Buttons.

Hope your post-physio aches are better by tomorrow, Weaver! I do nexercises when I've got neck-ache from being at the computer too long.

I'm looking forward to Mug Monday on the 22nd! A Country Living style photo!! That will be fun ...

I second Raph's vote that your aches and pains continue to fade. Tess has the right idea—play hard, rest much.

I've been building a flagstone walkway from the parking area to the main entry door, a distance of perhaps 75 feet. Of course that means digging up the sod and a few inches of soil underneath, hauling and dumping that via wheelbarrow to a spot at the rear of the cottage that needs building up, sorting through a huge pile of cut stones—some of which weigh a hundred or more pounds—filling the barrow, wheeling that to the walkway site, unloading and placing these stones…and then doing the whole thing (except for the digging) again and again. I could use a physiotherapist myself, except they'd probably began by advising me to NOT do such things as build stone walkways—and then I'd have to face the fact that I'm not 18 anymore, or 28, or 38, or 48, or…

Some realities are just better left unfaced. Ignorance is bliss, though occasionally painful.

Just had a catch up of your blogs and love the sketch of the girl and the flower plates.

Hope you feel better soon. Maybe some warm weather will help, if you rest plenty too. I like less erudite posts!

Do hope the physio has worked his/her magic and that you are feeling more comfortable by now. Tess and Poppy might get on well as she too is ball mad. I am surprised by how much I have done in the last two days considering that everything has been interspersed with ball throwing every few minutes! Poppy is with us for a week and although she misses her 'mum and dad' she is very good and follows me around like a little shadow. I'm all geared up for Mug Monday, but will probably post something else before then.

Sounds like a lovely little nature area, its amazing what can grow on industrial wastes...

Yes, I hope that the physio-pains prove very temporary and earn you a big pay-off in terms of freedom from the more persistent varieties.
