Dedicated to all terrier owners everywhere!

“I'll come when I'm ready”
“Tess!” she calls.
Does she not know
that rabbits, running through
the snow, need chasing
'til they pop below
the ground.

“Tess!” she calls.
Is that my name?
I only got it when
I came to live here
when I then became
their dog.

“Tess!” she calls.
I think I'll go!
Although I'm having fun
I know it's Tea-time
and I've got to show
who's Boss.

“Tess!” she calls,
and calls-and calls.
But rabbits live in our
stone walls and smell so good
that her voice falls on
hard ground.

“Tess!” she calls.
Who's that I see?
It is, it's my friend, Jake;
and she is scared I
might get bitten.
But I shalln't go
because I know
she's smitten!

Just found the blog. I have a staffie terrier (obtained from a rescue). Wonderful poem. Dogs are the best.

Typical terrier with territorial attitude and doubtless a cheeky dog to boot; and oh, those poor rabbits!

Terrier owners unite.
We had a terrier mix for 16 years. He was a joy.
Your writing about walking the dog was so evocative of times past -almost made me weepy.
Rambo looks quite a character.

Hannah - a vet once told me that it takes a Labrador two years to grow up! Sorry about that.

Thanks for calling Matthew - staffies certainly have a mind of their own. My border is ten months old - a bitch - and is a replacement for a ten year old dog G S H Pointer, who died in May and was much missed. There is no point of comparison between the breeds.

Yes Poet in residence - attitude is something our bitch has in excess.

Rambo and the terrier came face-to-face this morning Elizabeth. I think you could call it a stand off.

How old is Wilma Mrs N?

We had a little mini schnauzer years ago and he was always at my heels. We then had two yellow labs which we absolutely adored. They're now in doggie heaven.

Lovely poem.

Loved the poem! My dog is a poodle, OK everyone have your laugh ;) anyway he is very obedient (almost all the time) EXCEPT: when the neighbors cats are in our yard. No amount of yelling will bring him home until he has them in their yard! Then he trots home and looks up as if to say, "aren't you proud of me?"

You wanted to know about stitching on photographs. I have only hand stitched into them, and then only with fairly fine thread and a simple running stitch to enhance or emphasise any important areas in the photo. Hopefully it will make sense when Julia posts the photos of my work for me. I attached various bits of driftwood, seaweed and shells, or an 'embroidered' fence where it seemed to fit as you will see. We had a Tess once - she was a rescue dog, a Welsh Collie cross. She had been badly treated and took some time to trust us, but we had years of love and fun with her.

My foxy would give anything to be able to chase rabbits. I love the poem and can visualize my Bella refusing to pull her snout out of a delicious rabbit burrow even for tea.
