A picture signifying the unity that can exist between a man
and a woman. Given to me as a wedding present in 1952.

What a wonderful picture!

It's funny how ones taste changes as you get older.

At one time I only loved Preraphaelite work but now my taste in modern works of art has started to grow too.

Best wishes and a fresh drink for you to, my dear friend.

I agree Annie - your taste does develop - glad you like the picture - I love it. The fresh drink tastes good!

Agree absolutely, Annie.
Thanks for the suggestion of a drink - good idea.

Interesting that it's the heads are joined. I agree that feeling secure enough to share all your thoughts with someone is a wonderfully bonding experience but each person needs to hold onto their independent thoughts and not become subsumed by the other.
It's getting that equal balance and respect that is the hard part. But when it works it's liberating.

Yes, Carol. I had never thought about it like that - "the marriage of true minds". Isn't it interesting how we all view the picture in a different way?

I didn't know much about Tony Bartl (1910-2002) so have just googled him. He was born in Prague and studied with Oskar Kokoschka. He fought with the Russian Army in World War II before moving to Lincoln after the war.

He painted a mural at Cambridge (is that a picture of him in the top left hand corner of the page?)
