The old farmer
stands in the doorway
of the empty barn
as the stock doves sidle
along the beam.

And he sees again
the boy,
with his cracked, red hands
and his sore, chapped knees,
bending to milk the cow
in the Winter light.

Lovely to imagine the 'old farmer' and the 'boy' in the cow sheds; and, of course, the cattle. How times have changed...it would be a shame to just have them turn into a pile of stones - can you get any grants to re-build them, I wonder? You live in a beautiful part of the world - what do you farm?
