Sauteing with a bit of onion and garlic is good. Splash a bit of balsamic vinegar on at the end.thousandflowerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10577151568516965587noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-17894087888276944672011-06-03T02:51:50.451-07:002011-06-03T02:51:50.451-07:00We were saying only yesterday that it has the feel...We were saying only yesterday that it has the feel of August: for one thing, the chrysanthemums had come out.Dave Kinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08430484174826768488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-87590247218196445442011-06-02T23:59:47.776-07:002011-06-02T23:59:47.776-07:00I rather like this weather.I rather like this weather.Rachel Phillipshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16053924416805878169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-85955392789908678912011-06-02T21:16:59.005-07:002011-06-02T21:16:59.005-07:00We are in a drought as well. Will probably be put to one day very soon. Hand water I can do, but I haven't planted my gardens of old in anticipation of no rain.

I'm cooking Swiss Chard on Saturday night. I saute in olive oil with a little minced garlic, shallots, and a splash of balsamic vinegar at the end.

Wish I could say I'm reading something good. In between books at the moment. Can't decide on the next so catching up on my stack of magazines.Midlife Roadtripperhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06700277803842883251noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-39368347516833344402011-06-02T14:36:56.272-07:002011-06-02T14:36:56.272-07:00I do hope the old saw about oak and ash is right, ...I do hope the old saw about oak and ash is right, Pat. Young leaves went into salads with things like rocket for pep, and older ones I tended to cook by wilting in butter and olive oil, again to add some flavour.

So, we are to expect a dry summer? It wouldn't surprise me as, after years of looking, I found a rain hat that fits a few days ago.Erylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06008344023000459577noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-7728362043562246902011-06-02T12:36:26.856-07:002011-06-02T12:36:26.856-07:00How vividly you bring the smells and feel of Engli...How vividly you bring the smells and feel of English countryside alive to me!
Campion

oak and ash
I feel rather cut off from all that sort of thing nowadays.
We nearly had a tornado yesterday
and R.'s brother has had to evacuate his house in North Dakota.
Something rather wild with the weather round here!Elizabethhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03964291132366262298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-16713679549889940712011-06-02T11:37:53.590-07:002011-06-02T11:37:53.590-07:00I used to have a girlfriend who was a direct desce...I used to have a girlfriend who was a direct descendant of Mother Shipton - she was a witch too.Tom Stephensonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05979590950587415840noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-33795551820055257622011-06-02T09:56:59.484-07:002011-06-02T09:56:59.484-07:00Do hope you get rain soon Pat. Roger Deakin sounds such an interesting man - I must look out for that book. I believe you can eat chard like spinach - young leaves raw in salads and older ones lightly simmered or steamed.Heatherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06826501916623305535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-87971568312429758462011-06-02T09:38:08.874-07:002011-06-02T09:38:08.874-07:00There is a real look of August about your photogra...There is a real look of August about your photograph today.

We are worried that a large ash tree on our boundary is about to die of thirst and are wondering if we can run a hosepipe along to give it a long drink.
