But few of us, I think, have our lives so closely governed by the turning of the year as did our antecedents.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00861397533660827678noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-82247621578766995972009-04-06T18:35:00.000-07:002009-04-06T18:35:00.000-07:00Spring, a time of renewel for many. And with the opening up of the fields in the service of intensive farming, skylarks are fast disappearing. In the early '70s there were about 4 million. The number is now estimated as below 1 million. For those of us of a certain age, this all gives a particular piquancy to nostalgia.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-31639303896224929822009-04-06T10:11:00.000-07:002009-04-06T10:11:00.000-07:00Regarding meal worms for robins - I buy them from ...Regarding meal worms for robins - I buy them from the Pet Shop - I cannot imagine the trauma of breeding them myself!!!The Weaver of Grasshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13947971556343746883noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-35140107135827961052009-04-06T10:10:00.000-07:002009-04-06T10:10:00.000-07:00Thanks to all of you - it seems we are all glad to...Thanks to all of you - it seems we are all glad to welcome the spring. The fresh greens after potatoes, carrots and wilted apples. We gathered sorrel in the meadows for delicious sorrel soup with potato and to finish it off diced hard boiled egg and sour ream. The cow was in milk, the chooks started laying, the young nettles made marvellous spinach or green soup. There were pickled cucumbers and sourkraut but we were starved for fresh greens, and yet we grew up healthy and strong.Arijahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03720793296992474762noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-280582018791422638.post-19157876944528223742009-04-06T03:03:00.000-07:002009-04-06T03:03:00.000-07:00Reading your blog over the last few weeks has made...Reading your blog over the last few weeks has made me more appreciative of the beauty around me.
