Friday

What shall I do when it is time for my carers to leave and I am on my own?   Now, every morning at eight and every evening at six one arrives.   They get me something to eat (I get my own lunch with their help) and then help me shower and dress in a morning and get me undressed and ready for bed in the evening so that I only have to toddle off to bed when I feel like it. I am tired all the time and bed is my most welcome place - but I hope that will improve as the days go on.

Today two Physiotherapists have been and we have decided where to put the step and the handrails so that eventually I can get out.   I am missing Tess - she would be great company but of course she would also be too much for me at present so maybe it all worked out for the best.

Only a short post again - hopefully more before long.   Love to you all.   x

Hi Pat, pleased to hear that you are improving. Having someone coming in twice a day is certainly a help and I am sure you shall miss them but you strike me as a very strong lady and I am sure that gaining your full independence once more will be a real boost for you. Although not with you in person all of us in blog land join you every day - you are never alone. Look after yourself. Viv

I went through a similar thing this last year - had 3 hospitalizations and had to spend 3 weeks in a home before I recovered enough to go home. I had my husband here, and some nurses who stopped every few days for a few weeks with physio therapy, but there were times I wondered if I would ever be well. It took time, but once I made the turn, recovery was pretty quick. It was a long haul to get to that point though, and you have the misfortune of this happening at the start of winter when it's getting dark and dreary, and in the Year of Covid to boot. Just take each day as it comes and be gentle with yourself; if you push, you can knock yourself back - not good! Don't hesitate to ask for help; even with Covid around, it's better than risking another fall. And do things to cheer yourself up, even if they seem silly. I promise you, come spring or early summer, you'll look back on this and go "Wow! I came through all that!"

It sounds like you are making progress and I am sure you will manage without the carers and won't need them by the time they go. Then you will be able to go outside - even if just a few steps, and get that fresh air you are craving. Knowing the Yorkshire "breezes" you should get a full blast of it!

Don't overdo things and as Amanda said, don't by shy about asking for help. Hoping for a Very Early Spring in Yorkshire.

So lovely to have you back. I always read your blog but rarely comment. I am just sending you some positive thoughts because I know what it is like to work on recovering after a sudden health catastrophe. So just saying each day will bring you closer to your goal even if progress can seem far too slow sometimes other days can be amazing given your determination.

Every time I come here, it seems as if you're improving, and that makes me happy.

You should be part of a discussion regarding your ongoing care and it should not be removed without discussion with you. I f you dont feel ready for them to depart say so. Doing well Weave but it needs to be slow, your confidence has had a knock too. xxx

When your carers leave you will be ready and they will not leave until you are ready. xxx

Hello, Pat,I'm so happy you're back home. I read and enjoy your blog every day (and worried about you when you were in hospital), although I don't comment. I think Amanda and Rachel Phillips have it right, for all kinds of reasons. Your care seems to have been wonderful, so I don't think it will stop before you're ready; and your love of life will help you through this crisis, especially that you know how to make your life happy and full all on your own. Time, which really is a friend to all of us, will do the rest.

About dogs. I live in Canada, but I know that there's at least one charity in the UK which takes in dogs if they happen to become alone, and takes care of them even if a new home cannot be found for them. A dog would light up your life; why not adopt an older one (not easily adoptable) and register with this charity? It would make your life and the dog's so much happier! I'm 72, but I think we should move forward with life forever, as if we were immortal, and trust to Providence. Or The Universe.

You seem to making excellent progress in a very short time, and I am sure your carers won't leave until they are satisfied that you can manage without them.
I miss having a dog but know that it is very impractical for me to have one, even if that were possible. However, they are such wonderful companions.
Keep up the good work.X

I am with Rachel. They will not leave until they are sure you are able to do these things for yourself, dear Weave.

It is always wonderful to hear from you and a short post is fine. I'm sure you are very tired a lot still. Please don't worry about when your carers leave. Their purpose is to help you as long as you need it. Bit by bit you will get stronger and gradually you will be able to do more for yourself. I am glad for you that you can be in your home and they can come in and help. I think we all do better in our own home. One day at a time!

I so enjoy having you back in blogland, and hope I am right to assume the carers will stay as long as needed. That is good they come two times a day to help you with food, getting dressed, etc. I must have missed something about Tess, perhaps you told us and I am having a senior moment. That has been known to happen.

Having some help, in your own home, on a schedule that works for you is the ideal. In my opinion you call all the shots. When the time is right, you will decide when help is no longer needed. Also, if you want a small dog, you should have a dog. I'm sure you could give a dog a loving home. With a fence in the garden and a person to temporarily assist with the dog, you and your dog would be very happy. This sounds like a perfect Christmas present. (I hope Pat's son is reading this!)

IMHO dogs are a lot of work and need lots of attention. I would think carefully before getting one.

It’s great to hear from you, even if it’s only a snippet. Like your careers, we’ve checking you are Ok, and hoping each day is an improvement. The expression “baby steps” annoyed me after my surgery, but I had to admit that was all I could manage and my energy levels were very low... or perhaps I just had a tiny tank so it ran out fast. Don’t overdo it, for goodness sake!

My father fell and broke his hip in July. He did not get the care you are getting now and is suffering with complications. So glad to hear you are getting much better care.

Well I know about what it is to miss one's dog. Lucy is fast approaching her time and I know I will miss her terribly. But no dogs at the moment, get well, watch christmas slip by and then your garden will welcome you in Spring. Take everything SLOWLY. xxx

Thank goodness you have such good carers. My experience of them is not so good; in fact they were invisible. Very best wishes, Cro xx

Perhaps you could ask for an extension of the carer visits you're receiving? Or is there any way you could hire someone to come twice a day? I will keep you in prayer, my dear. ~Andrea xoxo

I too miss my dog very much but I think the suggestions from your readers to get another dog are ridiculous. You were already finding Tess harder to look after before she died and that is before you had your fall. A dog is a huge commitment especially as we get older and certainly not something to think about when you're still recovering from your accident.
I hope you get all the caring help you need until you feel ready to be without and I'm sure there will be an assessment of your needs before that time comes but the suggestion from The Feminine Energy above that you could hire someone from a private company is also a good one.

We don't mind your posts being short as they reassure us that you are on the mend. I too always read and don't often comment but I am always rooting for you and am so glad that you are receiving such good care. Just take it slowly and carefully and we will all be happy to read whatever you feel able to write.

It is your surgery and all the sadness in the world filling you with angst so fight them. You are a winner and I look forward to reading posts about your beautiful garden in your He spring.

I just read a post on Twitter about an elderly gentleman being given two budgies to look after and I thought of you, Pat, as they might fill the hole that Tess has left in your heart? I obviously don’t know how you feel about caged birds, but they can be very engaging I think. Take care, and I am sure you will feel stronger week by week. All that sleep is surely a good thing! You are doing great, Pat! Home already and managing many activities by yourself. Relax, rest and you will recover before you know it. By the time we are through the holidays, you will be feeling stronger. Glad you are getting good help!

It's one day at a time, isn't it? Your carers will be there as long as you need them, surely. The day may come when you will be glad to be on your own again. It is good to know you're getting up and down, even if with assistance.

Rosie - caged birds? I know Pat appreciates watching wild birds but I'm sure she would think the same as I do about the prospect of imprisoning birds in a cage - a barbaric practice. Anyone who delights in seeing birds fly free will think the same.

Before I began Doctor Aziba natural penis enlargement Product I measured 4 Inches in erect length, and 3 inches in erect girth. While flaccid I measured 3.4 Inches long. I began using his product, slightly skeptical I admit, and just 2 weeks later I was very happy with my progress. I measured 7.5 inches erect length and 6.5 inches erect girth, and 5.5 inches flaccid length. I was actually quite shocked at the huge gains I’d had, and continued using the product regularly, sticking to the usage schedule rigorously. After about 2-3 weeks I am 8.2 Inches in erect length and 8.1 Inches in erect girth. I am also 7.2 inches long while flaccid.
