What to look forward to today...

No days are really busy during this enforced semi lockdown but some are busier than others.   Yesterday I kept busy all day - I did this by slowing down and taking the day carefully - and I felt very good at the end of it.   My usual method, which I find hard to break, is to go at everything like a bull at a gate as they say and that usually ends in exhaustion and frustration.   The night before last for no reason I can think of I slept extremely badly.   At half past one I got up and made myself a pot of tea and two slices of toast and marmite and read my book for an hour and a half and then I dropped off on going back to bed but only slept intermittently.   So last night I slept very well indeed, waking to go to the bathroom at five this morning and then going back to sleep again and sleeping until a quarter to nine.  Brilliant.

Today is not a day when much is happening.   It was raining when I got up and had obviously been raining all night but now the sun is out and there is a light breeze.   It is almost lunch time and as my ready meals have just arrived I shall have Sausage and Bean Cassoulet for lunch and serve it with  peas and tenderstem  broccoli before I freeze the rest of the meals.   Then Percy and I will take a stroll round the block and I shall be back in plenty of time for our weekly Zoom meeting when friend W and I meet P and D from Windermere for our weekly chat.  A local friend, A, has just rung me for a nice chat.   We are a similar age and he also lives alone and has a son who lives locally and 'keeps an eye on him'.

Any odd moments will be taken up by reading another chapter of 'The Rules of Civility' by Amor Towles, which is almost as readable as his previous one 'A Gentleman in Moscow' which was our book group choice the month before last.  And then, of course, there is Monty Don and Gardeners' World on television this evening.   So all in all not a bad day.   It is interesting how we have adapted to it because it does look as though it will be bad again over Winter so we shall be kept in.   Because that is more than a possibility I have sent to West Yorkshire Spinners for an easy pattern and some sock wool and I hope to knit a couple of pairs of warm winter socks.  I hope my friend C is not reading this - I started knitting a teddy for my great grand daughter just after she was born.   She is four in December and I still have not finished it and  she is now much too old for it.   From time to time C does remind me of teddy languishing in the plastic bag in the cupboard near where I am sitting to type this.

Sausage and bean cassoulet calls.   May pop in again later if anything of interest occurs.

Stay safe. It is not fun waiting for Covid test results...no matter how much we isolate and mask here in the states, others just won't do it, putting all of us at risk. I admire how you seem to be doing well. This is so serious...so many friends...family members ill...dying...we pray diligently for that vaccine. Others seem to travel and go about their business with no thought of how they might be passing on this horrible virus...alas...just one of the things we are experiencing now...take care...read your books...walk and keep writing. I love your blog.

Hubby and i are well and still remain Covid free.... Ofcourse we always wear our mask when we are out and sanitize our hands frequently.. and try to retain a 6ft distance from others.. Ofcourse theres no guarantee that even that will work... But its the best we can do. We could stay home more... but we get done what we need to get done... Little to no frivolous shopping or browsing... The mask is too uncomfortable to enjoy browsing anymore..

I have those difficult nights sleeping too.. Thankfully not very often and when they do happen.. like you i get up.. I cannot just lie there... so i'll get up .. make a cup of tea.. read something and hopefully after a little while i'll try again to sleep..

Today i'll be cleaning ceramic tile ... the back splash in the kitchen is all up.. I just have a small part to clean and then i can grout it and be done.. Woohoo!!! I really like how it turned out.. Then theres clothes to wash and a meal to cook for the evening meal.. Hubby and i have settled into fending for ourselves for breakfast and lunch then having a cooked supper together in the evening.. Works well... Take care Pat! Hugs! deb

The sausage cassoulet sounds good. I woke before 6 this morning and decided to go back to bed and then slept until 8.30. It has taken me many years to try to pace myself instead of rushing at everything, but it does work.
By the way; do finish teddy - one is never too old for a teddy bear!
Enjoy knitting those socks. I have returned to knitting Twiddle Muffs for dementia sufferers. I have loads of oddments of wool and enjoy knitting - someone may as well benefit from it.

I will say the same as Heather ... finish that teddy ... a little girl [or even older girls] are never too old for a teddy bear! Hopefully, it will end up being a keepsake for her and, perhaps, share it with her own little girl someday!
Enjoy the rest of your day ... may it only be as busy as you care to have it and filled with fun and loads of good laughs!
Hugs from S. Colorado!!

I never had a teddy. A deprived childhood!

JayCee - same here. I had a little knitted one called Woolly and when I was five my mother gave it away saying I was too old for a teddy now. Can you imagine that happening these days?

Nooo.... child cruelty!!!!

Just echoing what others have said - never too old for a teddy. I admire you for battling on. I am trying to emulate you.x

I understand your night of difficult sleep. I have that happen to me occasionally and it is quite frustrating. I'm happy for you that you have slept better since then and I hope that good sleep continues!

Oh I hope you do finish the teddy bear! I believe you are never too old for something like that and I'm sure she would love it, especially coming from you!

As we're due to have more restriction you've inspired me to return to knitting after not doing any for years. Cosy socks sound a good idea, please could you share the pattern you got? I need something easy but there are so many patterns that I give up looking almost as soon as I've started.

Finish the Teddy, at 4, 5 or 6 it will become a treasure sitting on a pillow or cuddling.

I am reading "A Gentleman in Moscow" at the moment and enjoying its easy narrative style. Will have to see if I can get "Rules of Civility" from the library next.

I hear we're due a bad winter, too. Darn.

I am another one of your readers to sign the "Teddy Petition" :-)
It is amazing what difference it makes to a day whether we have slept well or not, isn't it. My working week consisted of 3 or 4 early starts (earlier than what is my usual getting up time), and I can feel the effects today - plus there will be another two early starts tomorrow (Sunday) and Monday...

Hope you enjoy the knitting, I find it so relaxing and if you are using a self striping yarn that makes it more interesting, I gave the last ball of WYS I had here as a gift which was as hard as giving away my Yorkshire tea but then my friend had gifted me one of her lovely Danish candles if you have any problems let me know. Happy to advise from a distance or take over when (if) we return, though I won’t offer to finish the ted, my soft toy stuffing ability is nil.

Thanks Jennyff thinking of staying wherre you are? It will certainly be warmer.
Jan - go to West Yorkshire Spinners site - the pattern is free to download.
Thanks everyone. You have inspired me to get out the half finished Ted. Zoom with friends after this and then get out Mr T.

Thanks for your inspiration as usual.

Thanks for your reply however there are 10 free sock patterns on that site, as you didn't say which one it was I looked at some but then gave up. I'd asked for help as I just haven't got the headspace to trawl through it all.
I'll read a book instead!!

I seem to get more done when I go at a slower pace and am not nearly so exhausted at the end of the day. You're never too old for a teddy bear. I still have mine!

Gerry - never fails to work for me.

Talking of reading, I've just bought a copy of This Other London by John Rogers. I love his YouTube films - it remains to be seen if I like his book but I have a good feeling about it.
