Saturday

Saturdays are never my favourite days, although at least today the sun is shining through the sitting room window and it is cheerful.   We had a Zoom at 10am, six of us,  - a good 40 minute chat and laugh together and that started the day off well.   Then I had my half-hour walk round the estate, it is really quite cold and breezy so didn't try to go any further than my usual circuit.  Then it was back for a coffee and then a chat ;  I chatted with my next door neighbour's daught er who is moving to the edge of the North York Moors. Then  I went out into the garden with secateurs  to begin cutting back some of the herbaceous growth but it was too cold.   So I made a cup of coffee and switched on the television to watch (and catch up) This Farming Life - I do so enjoy it - it brings all the fun, the hard work, the heartache when things go wrong - everything comes back as though it was yesterday rather than three years since my dear farmer left me.   Let's hope we have a few weeks of good weather now to build us all up for the winter here.  There is enough doom and gloom without bad weather setting in early isn't there.

Have a good week end.   The way things seem to be going it might be the last one before we get locked down again!   This business of going into lockdown in various places 'next Tuesday' or somesuch date rather than 'now, this instant'  it seems is something to do with it having to 'go through parliament' or something- or that is how I understood it when a government minister was explaining it this morning.  What usually happens is that folk then 'live it up' in the last week end of 'freedom' - or am I just being cynical?

You're not being cynical. Pat - that's exactly what happened in the news reports I saw: people crowding into pubs and around the outside tables in order to enjoy a last Hurrah before the restrictions came into force. It's going to take a few hefty fines before some people get the message about distancing, masks, etc.
There are still so many that think Coronavirus is a ploy by Government to control us. Idiots!
Incidentally, I didn't read yesterday's post until just now - your patio looks so clean and tidy, a beautiful view for you and very low maintenance, too.

That's not cynical, that's logical. Maybe someone can introduce the concept to those in power.
If it is the young who are not following the rules then someone should inform them that it's their jobs which are most under threat if the situation continues.

If we all kept to the rules and followed the advice we are given, we might be further along the road to normality by now. Not being able to have a big family gathering at Christmas will be the next thing for people to moan about. Some people still don't wear a mask, and pass too close to me in the street.
Enjoy the bright days and seeing your lovely patio when you open the curtains each morning.

Four lovely cheerful comments to lift my spirits which are a bit low today. Thank you all, xxxx

I am happy to hear you had such a nice Zoom chat and laughs with good friends. That is such a good way to get together with others when you might not otherwise be able to get together. I'm sure even a short walk with Percy was refreshing for you. I am trying to take advantage of being outside when I can now before winter decides to creep up on us. Enjoy the remainder of your weekend Pat!

I like Saturdays, and mine was nice. I have my bed all remade=up and bobbins wound for my next towels. Satisfactory.

Last Friday I saw some secateurs in our local garden centre, and suggested to my wife that they would make me a perfect Christmas present. She bought them, but couldn't be bothered to wait until Dec 25th, so gave to me at once. I'm pleased to say that they are perfect, and like you I've started to cut back excessive growth. I'm becoming tired of isolation, and the best days are now those when we go out in the car. How crazy is that!

I have not followed the news this past week and have not heard about a second lockdown waiting in the wings. Here in Germany, schools have started again everywhere and many who have returned from holidays abroad have made the numbers of infections rise again. For me, work will just keep going as usual, mostly from home; for as long as the weather allows, I will stickmto my daily after-work walks, visit my parents once a week (without hugging), do my food shopping and so on - and wear a mask in shops and on public transport.

PS: Three years already! Glad the TV program brings back fond memories.

Your patio looks lovely and a good job done before winter. Saturday is a strange day, a busy day for workers who shop and catch up on housework but Sunday comes with a true feeling of holiday I think, and the weather is not too bad.

I don't think you are being cynical at all. The idiot in Bolton who refused to self-isolate when he came home from holiday abroad, went on a pub-crawl with his mates two days later, merrily passing convid about as he went - before he realised he had it - is apparently responsible for their recent spike and lockdown, and I'll bet the majority of people in the area are pretty angry about it. As Heather says, if we all kept to the rules we might be nearer normality by now.

Cro Secateurs are on my list for replacement - luckily my birthday is on Hallowe'en so I won;t have to wait until Christmas.
Bonnie - I had another, slightly longer walk with Percy later and felt much better for it.

Thank you for your cheery comments. We have a wet morning here Thelma, have you?

A very fine drizzle here Pat, but warm, need to go out and sweep paths though.

Same here Thelma.

Somehow it is both reassuring and frustrating that human nature is exactly the same everywhere. Here in Washington state, some of us have been very careful, but others still refuse to believe it's even a problem. We're worried about a another spike and perhaps another lock down as weather turns colder and people become more casual about precautions indoors.
