Monday

Bit of a disappointment after yesterday when it finally turned out to be warm and sunny.   Today there is a sharp wind blowing and it is chilly again.   I did go for a walk with Percy but we were both glad to get back home again and into the warm.    Now the sky is largely blue but it is that pale blue that signifies that there is not a lot of warmth in the sun.

We look set to go further and further into lockdown and I do begin again to feel sorry for those shop owners trying to make a living.   We have a charming independent Bookshop in Richmond - about ten miles away from here and easily accessible under normal circumstances.   But given the combination of my ankles and a semi lockdown going to Richmond is not on the cards for me.   Rachel last week on her post recommended 'Call me by your name' - I liked the sound of it and sent for it from Amazon.   I put my order in on the Sunday on line and the book came on Monday lunchtime.   Then she mentioned a sequel 'Find me' - I ordered that from Amazon on Saturday - they said it would be here on Tuesday - it dropped through my letter box today, Monday, at lunchtime.   With that kind of service you can hardly blame people for using them.

A friend called yesterday with three books for me to read so I am nicely topped up with reading material again.   And today was bed-changing day.   At eighty seven this is a pretty major operation but it is all completed - bed stripped, sheets and pillow cases washed, tumbled dried, folded and put to air and bed made up with clean clothes.   It will be lovely tonight stepping into a clean, sweet smelling bed - one of life's little pleasures.  Maybe this troubled time has made us all stop and think a bit more about what is important in our lives - if things end with there being a better world, however small the change, then at least some good will have come out of it all.  Stay safe

I agree with you about clean bedlinen being one of life's pleasures, neatly ironed (I am still a stickler for that). New books are perhaps the greatest (for me) of life's pleasures and one I will try not to forgo for as long as I am able.

We are back to a drizzly autumn day today but have enjoyed the extra bonus-days of warm sunshine.

I too find clean sheets a treat. Such a simple thing but so nice. Thank goodness for books - one is never bored with a supply of good books to read. We have a Lions Club Charity book shop here which is very well stocked with books of every kind, but I also use Amazon. Not quite so chilly today but it seems to be turning grey. Possibly wet tomorrow. Keep warm and safe.

I have just bought some new bedlinen and it felt so good to slip between the crisp new sheets last night. Such a shame that it becomes wrinkled so quickly after sleeping on it!

If you like this bookstore in Richmond and want it to stay open, why not call and order the books from them? I only use Amazon in desperation as I am a firm believer in buying local and supporting local businesses. My closest bookstore is 4 hours one way but I order from them first. Used books are great too if you have access to them.

Yes, the local privately-owned bookstores are worth patronizing so they stay in business... but things like this virus have taken such a hit on them. I wonder if you could order your books from them and they would mail them to you? Amazon is so cheap tho, with discounts on their books & free shipping & all. Back in the 1980s when I was learning how to tole paint, we had several privately-owned tole painting shops & they were wonderful. They held classes, sold all the "latest & greatest" book & products, etc. etc. But then came along places like Hobby Lobby & Michaels & other chain hobby shops.... and one by one the privately-owned shops went away. Those that still managed to hang on heard their deathknell when the internet was born. So my mantra ever since has been.... if you like a privately-owned business then patronize it.... so it doesn't go away! But sometimes that's hard, especially now with COVID. ~Andrea xoxo

I also was inspired by Rachel to read "Call me by your name" and have ordered a copy online. I wonder if it will be as enjoyable as watching the film? Hope so!
I usually find films disappointing after reading a good book, but the film (which Rachel mentioned was showing on TV some weeks ago) was just gorgeous and so very relaxing. The scenery was perfect.... will the author manage to give us those images? I can't wait to find out.
Enjoy your fresh bed! Definitely one of life's little luxuries xxx

Well done on getting your walk with Percy even in the chillier weather! Clean sheets certainly are enjoyable and something to look forward to at night. If all these days of pandemic can remind us to enjoy the simple pleasures of life then we will have at least gotten something good out of it.

A stack of carefully chosen books to look forward to, and fresh sheets on the bed, these are things we can cherish. I did order a book from our local bookstore via their website and they mailed the book to my house, the postage was very low. The first month they offered that service they got 1,000 orders, a good thing. Maybe your local store offers that service?

Beautiful day here in central Pennsylvania in the US. I change the bedding on Sunday mornings (and line dry if the weather permits) and absolutely love crawling into bed Sunday night. Then I pick up the current book and enjoy. I have volunteered at my local library so finding something to read is never an issue.

Pat i have to tell you about my grandmother... She LOVED clean sheets... she ironed her sheets and pillow cases.. But she did one other trick too.. She liked sheets with flowers on them and they are usually only printed on one side... She always turned the pretty side so it would lay against her not facing up... Which way do you put your sheets on the bed? Books i need new books too... I'am currently reading Woman in the Mist ... Its about Dian Fossey... I find it very interesting. I think i missed my calling in life.. I should have been an animal behaviorist as i find it all so very interesting.. Hugs! deb

The weather in the north and south of the country seems to be out of sync at the moment; we had our summery spell yesterday (Monday). Cambridge is a city full of bookshops but even there many of the smaller ones are failing unless they have some kind of specialist focus - or are selling second-hand books. Though, with the University mostly operating online this year, many of those shops must be feeling the pinch too.

This business with where to buy one's books is difficult. For me the main focus is the fact that I can't walk, so have to be able to park nearby and that is not always possible. But several of you suggest the possibility of the shop posting the book on. I shall investigate that because it is important to keep our bookshops, so thank you.
Glad so many of you agree about ironed sheets!!

When I wanted to give my niece in Ripon a gift earlier this year, I sent my favourite bookshop there, aptly called "The Little Ripon Bookshop" an email and asked about possibilities to order from them. They were so friendly and even offered to gift-wrap the two books I had chosen for my niece. So, instead of ordering online, having sent something to my place only for me to gift-wrap it and send it back across Europe to my niece, it was all done in Ripon, and quick and friendly, too. I shall definitely use them again, well in time for Christmas or birthdays. Thankfully, many of my relatives love to read, so books are always welcome.
Fresh bed sheets - indeed one of the pleasures in life!

First, I want to complement this site administrator for creating this platform for us to express our feelings

I frequently get cold sores(which lasts for 5-6 days on my lips and its painful both physically and mentally) .. As a bodybuilder, I basically get outbreak due to the daily pressure and heat in the body.. Recently I stumbled upon my salvation. I found a herbal remedy to cure hsv completely, in just 4weeks ..

I got to know about Dr Utu after seeing a lady's testimony online. I reached the doctor and I ordered for herpes herbal medicine. He sent the herbs to me and I started making use of them. In just 2days, the cold sores are cleared. 4weeks after medication, I went to the hospital for test of cold sores and it was completely NEGATIVE.

By following every prescription, i was able to cure my cold sore in less than 4weeks. 100% natural herbs no after effect.
