Another Friday=

How quickly they come around - and I usually think they are Saturdays arriving in any case.   But another Friday arrives and it is a damp one.  I did blog yesterday but sadly Gremlins invaded my computer (or most likely my brain) and when I switched on late evening to add to my post my photograph and a large part of my earlier text had disappeared.   I tried but couldn't get the photograph of my jar of honey back - and this morning, when I switched on, the whole thing had disappeared into thin air.   Now I can't get today's photograph to download so I am sitting here trying to keep my cool.   As I am frequently told by my more computer-literate friends - it is never the computer's fault - always that of the operator.  So sorry for no post yesterday.

Looking out of the window sitting here at my laptop I see that it is raining heavily.   Isn't it usually the case - we are desperate for rain - eventually we get some - then it really doesn't have any idea when to stop.   Luckily I did get a short walk with Percy in this morning before it began to rain.   Then I had the most delicious lunch and I took a photograph of it.   Cro often puts his lunch on his daily blog so I thought I would too today - but my computer is refusing to cooperate.   So all I can do is tell you what I had - I had the most deliciously cheesy Lasagne with steamed asparagus and followed it with a bowl of English strawberries.  Many companies round here are cooking and delivering ready-to-eat meals as a way of keeping their business going during lockdown.   One such company up here is Fairhursts - well-known caterers in the area and with a good 'farmhouse cafe' usually.  They are delivering ready meals for two (or in my case enough for two days for me) and today I had one of their Lasagnes.  I think the best I have ever tasted.

All that and now it is Gardeners' World tonight and a whole hour of Monty Don - one of my favourite programmes.   Like my father before me, there is nothing I enjoy more than watching somebody else in the garden doing the hard work I want doing.

Sad to see today that Dame Vera Lynn has died at the age of 103.  I think it is difficult for today's generation of young people to imagine the pleasure and the sheer influence she had on young men and women during World War II and isn't it good to know that she has herself had a long and happy life -richly deserved.

Looking out of the window the rain has stopped and the sun has come out.   What a difference it makes.   Have a good evening and hopefully, gremlins notwithstanding, I will see you tomorrow.

**Beaten the gremlins!!

The picture of your food looks wonderful - that lasagna really looks delicious and perfect with the asparagus and strawberries. It is good that you take the time for a proper meal - no wonder you are still so healthy and active. Happy for rain for your garden but looking forward to the sun again! The weather always plays with our emotions! Thanks for a nice post!

Nice looking lunch, Pat. My own philosophy is that an otherwise bad day can alway be redeemed by a good meal.

Ian Holm has passed away too... Loved him as Bilbo in the Lord of the Rings... Your food looks delish Pat..Glad to hear you've had some rain... We are expecting some this weekend and into next week... We could certainly use it.. We were overly wet and then overly dry and now its time for some more rain.. Grass is all nicely mowed...good time for a rain.. Hugs! deb

I have been reading your blog from afar (state of Pennsylvania, USA) and just want to let you know how much I enjoy reading your posts. Love your garden discussion, remembrances of the past and oh that lasagna looks yummy!

Your lunch looks delicious.

Unfortunately, the rain that I was raving over yesterday has all but disappeared today after gusty and drying winds and sunshine. With a mini heatwave forecast for next week it's looking good for a continuation of the drought here.

You had a lovely lunch, thank you for showing a picture! I wonder if your computer gremlins are just the new blogger acting up. I have not switched over yet but I hear there could be a learning curve with it. Enjoy your evening and your gardening program!

the lasagne looks amazing. We don't have good restaurants near us (100 + miles one way) so sadly not that option. The wild asparagus has just finished growing in the ditches here and strawberries unlikely to show up until July. I am hoping there is a good crop of wild blueberries this year as it is the only fruit DH will eat.

Well I did see your jar of honey yesterday so it was definitely there! Perhaps the computer gremlins sneaked in and ate it!

That looks delish - just as well we've just eaten!

Glad to report we had a dryish day today and got a walk in - yesterday there was no opportunity to get out.

I will remind Tam that Gardener's World is on tonight, but I don't think it's a programme my dear man would want to watch!!

Your lunch looks delicious. I often think that although computers are machines, they have a mind of their own! It's quite a pleasant evening here after a rather damp start, and yesterday was appalling. I don't think it stopped raining all day. At least the grass is happy and is looking quite green once more. The weekend is supposed to be better and next week will be warmer once more.

Glad you overcame the gremlins - I could see your post and jar of honey as Wordpress captures the blog posts in the 'reader' but it was not on your blog of course! When I worked with computers one of the first rules when something goes wrong is to reboot (restarting) sometimes there are updates waiting so a restart will sort this if you have automatic updates. Sometimes programs just get their knickers in a twist and is especially so with photos as they can be quite large - resizing them to a lower megapixel size (800 x 533 is a good size for blogs) might help your problem and stop things playing up. Resizing makes them load quicker for you and the reader. The picture will look the same size on your blog.
Snap - we had lasagne for the first time in ages this week.

Woohoo, I do believe you have kicked them down the road. Glad to know your days are full.

I'm interested in "wherethejourneytakesme"s comment about rebooting, and her/his explanation of why it works. My husband was having conniptions this morning as our computers refused to hook up to the internet and his students were starting a 24hr test. The university is teaching online and so computer access is imperative. A friend suggested turning the whole shooting match off for a couple of minutes and fortunately that worked.

You lunch looked delicious - and getting it readymade makes it "even betterer" - no preparing vegetables, sauces etc, and washing up of about three pots. Heaven. And you'e helped the restaurant keep going too.

Im here because Grace Forest "Windthread" suggested you and though I don't always get to blogs, yours, when I do visit is always nice. I too am often at the mercy of the internet or Google or the old laptope and I don't post daily...usually every few days. I've loved Vera Lynn long time and posted her at FB often. She was a wonder and delight. While you have rain and needed, we have humidity in Manhattan but the fan is so far enough. Thanks for the lasagna. I'm sitting to a late supper at nearly 10 pm- flat beans steamed and very spicy chicken bits.

I posted a film of Vera Lynn on my FB page, singing to the troops in about 1940. Her words 'We'll meet again' must have been very reassuring for them before heading off to battle, whilst knowing than many wouldn't return. It must have been very emotional for her.

Ready meals are a boon for people like myself who don't always feel like preparing a meal or leave it to the last minute to decide what I fancy to eat. I always keep a selection of frozen main courses from Wiltshire Farm Foods.

Welcome to you Ms. Gla everythingcame right in the end. Thanks for calling in. It is a lovely morning here - hope it is with you all too.

That lasagne and asparagus looks delicious, as do the strawberries. I had some yesterday morning on my muesli, organically grown but still sold at a rather reasonable price.
By the way, it is definitely NOT always the user's fault when something goes wrong with our computers - it often is, but not always. Like one of your readers wrote in their comment, there are often things going on in the background you don't know about, such as automatic updates, that can cause trouble. One of my favourite computer games, for instance, kept crashing until I found it was my antivirus software that didn't like it. Switching to a different antivirus application helped.
We've had quite a bit of rain this week, which was very welcome. Next week hot temperaturs up to 30 C or more are forecast for my area. We'll see!

Your lasagne looks delicious (love your plate by the way). I made some ratatouille yesterday and decided to use it to make a veggie lasagne. It was absolutely delicious and had enough leftovers for a couple of servings to freeze. They will come in handy on a day when I can't be bothered to cook.

I know you blogged because I managed to comment on it before it went AWOL.

So many lovely people, some very famous, some not quite so much, have died in the past few days. Dame Vera was a very special to the people of our country wasn't she and she will be missed.

Hope you have a peaceful and gremlin free weekend. xx
