My gardener came to mow the lawns this morning. It is very windy indeed - hardly able to stand weather. I had also asked him to empty my two tubs by the front door and pot them up with something for the Summer. I knew he would be pleased to choose what he fancied and I must say - now he has done them they look well - a fuchsia in the centre and trailing lobelia round the outside. And now, later in the afternoon , the wind has dropped considerably and apart from my iris and one of my aquelegia nothing else seems to have suffered too much damage. The perils of gardening are always with us.
We had our Zoom Coffee Morning as usual - I slipped off mid coffee but was able to get straight back on so only one hiccup today. It breaks the day up nicely. I also made a chicken, tomato and courgette sauce for pasta - it was nice and garlicky and has left a good smell everywhere. And the added bonus - there is enough for tomorrow too.
The recipe is from a Slow Cooker book friend S bought me - this recipe is not quite as tasty as the sweet and sour chicken but it is a good second.
Has the risk of frost passed? Isn't this the question all gardeners ask themselves this week every year? I have antirrhinums to plant out in my herbaceous bed - there is one bed on the flat that I can manage myself (all others are on too steep a slope) and I have nine plants to put in various gaps - and they are half-hardy. But I have carefully nutured them for the past month - shall I risk it or wait another week? None of them will be really exposed because all the herbaceous stuff is well up. Perhaps a still,warm day will persuade me.

How nice to have someone who can pick such lovely choices for your pots. I do like browsing through the garden centers myself, but always seem to come up with the same things.
Surprised that you haven't put the antirrhinums out already - one, because I'd be very surprised if we get anymore frost and two, because some of mine have been in the garden since last summer and are now almost back in flower. So they have had frost on them.
No mowing down here today - we have had some very welcome and useful rain. Still very windy. Nice to have your virtual coffee mornings, they must help each one of you. We can't wait for our communal ones to start up again. Your pots must look lovely - I do hope the weather calms down and doesn't inflict any more damage to precious plants.
Gosh, I really hope the frosts have now passed. Although it has been chilly over here today in the strong winds.

We have had a few hours of good, steady rain; not as much as our area really needs, but better than nothing and definitely very welcome. The temperature has dropped from yesterday's 27 C to about 12 today. It made for a cosy day of relaxing indoors - even a nap mid-afternoon!
What a lovely Saturday you have enjoyed! I must say this past week has been absolutely beautiful weather here in Missouri. It's been cool but not hot all week and I've been able to have the windows open which I love. It sounds like your gardener has made some nice choices for your front pots. Sometimes it is nice to let someone else make the decisions and then enjoy the surprise!
My potted plants are spending more time flat on the ground than standing up at the moment
Today is the last freeze date here, as my father said, and I remember, so I have purchased a small flat of plants to pot up tomorrow. Happy spring to us all.
Very windy here too in Suffolk, I was however able to plant up 2 summer pots with my home grown seedlings. They're all rather small but they'll grow. I miss going to the garden centre to buy the plants.
Derek - I intend to make putting my antirrhinums in my afternoon job today if the wind drops a bit more, as it is expected to. I would have put them in at the beginning of the week had it not been windy but do remember we are much further North than you. Antirrhinums are half-hardy anyway and over the years I have kept them for several years until a really severe frost knocks them out.
I've been weeding away in the Net Tunnel this weekend, it's mesh sides give me a degree of protection from the gusty winds. Why is it this year that the weeds are thriving so much and yet my seedlings are struggling. I tried to buy some compost to help them on, but it seems everywhere local to us has sold out completely and on Amazon it's £25 a bag!! Talk about profiteering!
