Monday morning bright and early!

And what a Monday morning it is too. Five inches of snow outside and still snowing.  It has been lovely having my friends here over the week end.   They came Friday lunch time when friend W and I met them in our usual Friday restaurant.  We came home and spent the rest of the day here just chatting (weather prevented doing anything - it very windy and rainy.

On Saturday after breakfast my friends thought they would go the twenty odd miles down to Ripon to have a look at the little city and a look round the Cathedral.   After about half an hour they rang to say they had got as far as Masham where the road was blocked as the River Ure had burst its banks there.  So I booked a table at a local pub, they drove back up here and we had a delicious lunch, sitting by a blazing wood burner in an absolutely packed pub (mostly walkers sheltering from the rain but all eating hearty meals).  We had  chips with everything (and jolly good chips they were too) quiche and salad, toasted Brie and Cranberry toastie, mince and onion pie and veg and then came home for an evening when we we joined by my son and his wife.   It was my friend's birthday (a big O too) so we also had a large box of chocs and too much wine.

Yesterday we all went to our usual Sunday lunch venue and then my friends went home to Windermere - driving through brilliant sunshine and clear blue sky for most of the way.  We had a lovely time and it has really done me a lot of good.  Friend W had gone down with a really heavy cold - my friend P came with the start of a cold too so it is going the rounds - probably land with yours truly shortly.

So it's back to normal today and several things to catch up on on television if I can't think of anything else I want to do.   No post-writing for a day or two and I really feel i am losing touch with dear old friends - so it is nice to be back.

We were up in North Yorkshire this weekend - our daughter has moved from leighton Resevoir down nearer to Thirsk now but as it is flatter countryside there we had to turn around a few times because the roads were flooded roundabout - there was only one safe route to get to her new house. We had a trip up to Bowes Museum and the wind was so strong we could hardly stand up. We had a small tree branch fall on the car while we were parked having our car picnic. On the way home there had been an incident on the A66 so we had to divert off onto country lanes and make our way down through Richmond. It is beautiful countryside but again a lot of flooding in places.
Stay safe and warm. I think our granddaughter's school might be closed today because of snow. The small amount here has already turned to rain.

While I am sorry that your friends didn't make it to Ripon and its beautiful cathedral (which is one of my favourite buildings in the world), I am glad all of their and your trips went well, and you had such a good time together with great meals and "too much wine", as you say!
No snow here; it has been raining steadily since last night and there were some high winds, but it isn't all that cold and the rain is nowhere near enough to cause flooding.

I am trying to determine where you live. My grand is in England this semester. However has flown home for death in the family. I hope she has good weather going home later in the week. She is in Bristol.

A lovely weekend by the sound of it, despite the weather. I hope your snow doesn't cause too many problems. We have some here on the high ground which has closed some roads, but nothing down here as yet. It is still the strong winds causing us problems with cancelled ferries.
Keep warm!

What a good idea to make use of your favourite restaurants and local pubs for the main catering each day that your friends were staying; it sounds like you were able to have rest periods each day so you could enjoy their company properly. xx

So nice to have you back too Pat!! 5 inches of snow! You know i would be over the moon about it. lol If only i could see 5 inches of snow here! Some snow is expected Tues night so we will see.. I'm sure no where near 5 inches but perhaps enough to make it pretty.. :) I sure hope you don't get sick Pat... I work with the public and 'knock on wood' so far so good.. People coughing around me just make me cringe.. and i wonder why they just don't stay home if they are sick.. Ofcourse there are things that you must get out and do and take care of but going to a Visitor Center to a Park is not one of them... lol Okay dear Pat be safe..be well and i look forward to your next post. Hugs! deb

Such a lovely weekend! I love snow and am hoping for one snowfall before the winter is over. Doesn't look like we will have it.
Glad you are back .

Dare I say, but it's lovely warm sunshine here, and has been for the last week. All change tomorrow, as we are promised rain for a few days. I don't envy you the snow... I hate the stuff.

Do be careful if you go outside in such a lot of snow.
That pub lunch description has me almost ready to pack a bag and get a flight back home to jolly olde England!!!!!!
Hope the cold passes you by Pat.

February 24 and not a drop of rain yet for the entire month here in northern California. It's going to be a very hot, dry summer and even scarier autumn if we don't receive anymore rain this year. And we continue to cut down our blessed trees for fear of fires.

The weather 'round the world seems to be extreme, one way or another.

I won't end on such a sour note. Happy to hear you had such a fantastic weekend, and nothing pressing now as you recuperate.

Stay warm and take good care of yourself with that snow around. Sounds like a great weekend - we all need those occasionally :)

Now, at 4 in the afternoon, the snow has almost gone - the sky is a faded blue and the wind is blowing hard. My central heating has been on high all day but it is keeping me nice and warm.

It sounds like a lovely weekend in spite of some rough weather. Here is California it is sunny and 68 degrees but we too had snow at Christmas so I know how beautiful it looks as the flakes drift down and leave the world white and silent.

Everywhere must look beautiful even if the snow does make getting around difficult. Hope your friends got home safely and that you don't catch the cold. Mmmmm - brie and cranberry toasties, not to mention chips - I'm pleased you had such a nice weekend but it is nice to have you back.

My brother is coming up to Melsonby at the weekend.

Rachel - not far from here so hope he manages to get through in all the flood water

Thanks for calling in . All the snow has gone now so it is not freezing but there is a very cold strong wind as there has been for weeks.
