February

'February fill dyke' - not called that for nothing but really there is no need to overdo it is there?   We caught the very worst of the weather up here in July with that horrendous thunder storm in which our little village (only a mile from my bungalow) featured on the National News.   Some of the houses flooded then have still not been fully restored to normality and as the beck swept past their gates yesterday I am sure there was more than one quaking heart.   But boards and sandbags kept the overflowing beck on the road rather than down the drives.   So all was well this time.

Today it is just windy and mostly dull - now and again a brief burst of sunshine, but fleeting.   Well, it is February and for many years this is the kind of weather we would expect.   But contrarily for the last few years it has not been like that, so when bad weather hits, as it has done this week end, we feel badly done by.

The lady who cleans for me rang to say could she come tomorrow instead as one of her grand children was not well enough to go to school, so I seem to have been wandering about aimlessly all day doing more or less nothing.   I have some very busy days coming up so really it has probably done me a lot of good.

Looking out on the garden snowdrops, crocus and pink hellebores are all flowering away with not a care in the world.   Isn't it good how nature carries on regardless.   As I came back from lunch out yesterday I passed fields full of Swaledale sheep sheltering in the walls and hedgebacks.   What  hardy animals they are.   On Breakfast Television
this morning Amanda Owen, the Yorkshire Shepherdess, who lives up the top end of Swaledale, was showing rounding up these hardy sheep to bring them down to lower ground.   Not all that long before they lamb - maybe eight weeks at most - out in all weathers and they didnt look all that keen to come down off the tops in spite of seeing the drier grass.   We are a  hardy lot up here.

It's just as well you are a hardy lot after seeing the news. So pleased that those flooded back in July were safe this time. We certainly got off lightly.
Your garden must be looking so pretty, and many more delights to come as the year wears on.

I don't blame the Yorkshire Shepherdess for bring her breeding ewes down to lower ground. I am guessing February and March can bring a good fall of snow most winters.

Glad you had a rest up today. I had to deal with BT ("fixed" apparently - except I am still back to square one with the wretched set up and so unless it settles down in the next couple of days they will be hearing from me again.

February Fill Dyke indeed - I remember that term of old, and from its appearing on a page in the Country Diary of an Edwardian Lady.

Weather has been frightful, we're fortunate here in Suffolk no damage done.. nature does carry on regardless and your pink hellebore sound just lovely.

I was thinking of you and am so glad it wasn't too bad!
The spring flowers sound lovely. Still winter here.

I have been reading about the storm and hoped no more damage is done.

I've recently been watching programmes covering several seasons in "Life On Our Yorkshire Farm" which features your Yorkshire Shepherdess, Amanda Owen, her husband and their 9 children. So interesting - and such a hardworking family. Even the toddler youngest helps with bottle-feeding the lambs! It's definitely not an easy life up there but they are such a lovely, happy lot.

I love hellebores.

I saw about 10 mins of the Yorkshire farming family recently on TV. What a wonderful family they are; all hard working and happy. An example to us all.

I just googled Swaledale Sheep. Their curled horns and shaggy coats are beautiful. And the lambs are darling... but what lamb isn't?

The storm hit my area not as badly as was feared, but it did do some damage all across the country, and at least one person died (a falling tree hit her). Long distance trains and flights were suspended, and in some parts, schools remained closed yesterday. In my town, no local trains were running until at least 10:00 am - good job I was working from home yesterday anyway.
It is still very windy today, but I guess things have largely settled and I won't have trouble getting to work.

The Yorkshire Dales are one of my favourite places in the country. I can remember a few years back driving slowly along the lanes and being amazed at the variety of wild flowers on the banks beside the road.
Sheep farming would not suit me. Out in all weathers and very hard work. I’m hoping we don’t get too much more rain here. The fields are saturated and the Severn is full almost to overflowing again.

If my barometer is to be believed it is getting better by the hour - it has gone up considerably since this morning - let's hope it is telling the truth.

Thanks everyone for calling round.

HAIL LUCIUFER HOW ILLUMINATI BROTHERHOOD MADE ME RICH. Hello! I want to share this testimony with you. "I have been living a life of poverty for the past many years. Then, to feed my family was a serious challenge. I almost lost my senses due to much thinking. I have searched everywhere, do all manners of work but non could give me the a different things on the net about “Illuminati''. At first i was scared thinking that they will tell me to bring human being for sacrifice. But i still went on to apply but could not join. But one day I traveled to a nearby city to see a friend for financial assistance to start a business. He was actually the one that told me to come and see him. I spent few days with him. We had several discussions and I used those opportunities to explained more of my predicament to him and he promised to help me. From there, I knew very well that my life has already changed for the better. The next day when he arrived from the office, He explained to me secretes of his wealth. There he told me about the ILLUMINATI BROTHERHOOD. I was not afraid because I have already made up my mind. But he also made me to understand everything that there is no human sacrifice and I agreed to join the society. He helped me to obtain my membership form. Then after the membership form was fully processed, I was invited to Paris Saint, France. district where my initiation ceremony took place and I was given $730,000 US dollars and a car also worth thousands of dollars to fit the members of the club. It was a surprise to me because I have never received such money before. After the initiation, seven days later, I was also invited for the main awarding ceremony and I was also given another $900,000 US dollars . Today, I have a good business that is moving fine. My husband and my kids are living fine and I am so happy today". If you are
