Tuesday

My posts at present seem to be all complaining about the weather.   Day after day of rain, fog, no sun, chill wind - today has really been the pits.   For about an hour this morning I was able to see East Witton Fell from my window - beautiful.   Then the fog came down and the miserable rain started and so it has been all day.   Tess had her long walk with J, her dog walker, (reluctantly) so at least I don't have to go out with her again - I went very early this morning so she has had two walks and can go out in the garden later.

What have I done?   Well I drove into town as usual this morning, went to the Bank, had coffee with friend E and then drove down to the Garage and asked them to check my tyres which they are always happy to do.   I came back to a nice clean bungalow as my cleaner J had been while I was out.  After cooking and eating lunch - my resolution is to cook more proper meals if I dont lunch out so today I cooked sausage, mash with onion gravy, sprouts and carrots - it was delicious.
And this afternoon I made a start on writing my Christmas cards so I feel I have had quite a productive day.   Tomorrow is our Poetry Group so in the morning I shall have to choose my poems - I already have one - November by Robert Bridges as suggested by Sue -such a lovely, evocative poem.

Thanks to all those who suggested possible books for my Book Group (it is my turn to choose) - I am so grateful and now have a credible list to present on Monday morning.  Some months I don't read a single book which I consider good enough for discussion and this month has been like that.   I shall now go and watch 'Our Yorkshire Farm' and put my feet up - the curtains and blinds are drawn so I can forget that weather.

Enjoy your evening. It has rained here all day so we are very soggy.

I think we are all fed up of the current weather. So dont feel bad at writing about it. We are in this together!

I’ve read your blog for years but have never commented. Now that I am, I’m a day late. Do yourself a favor and put The Stationery Shop on your next book club list, or just read it yourself because it is so good. Reading about your weather makes me feel slightly better about ours. The Seattle area has just been ranked at the top of the list of U.S. cities with the gloomiest weather. After 74 years here I’m perfectly comfortable with gloom, but my dear old Dad, who was born and raised in California and moved to Washington with my mother in 1944, complained about it until his dying day. It’s a darn good thing we loved the old rascal.

We really do have to make the most of each fine day we get, don't we? At this time of year they are rare. It is supposed to be colder again by the weekend so I hope it will be dry too. I hate cold and wet. Such a shame we can't send most of our rainfall to Australia.

May I add 'Bridge of Clay" by Markus Zusak to your book list . It is a second book by the author of The Book Thief and is another remarkable book that really benefits from discussion.

Now I'm embarrassed as I've read only one of the books suggested by your readers. I like Bill Bryson and have read a couple of his books.

How I hope your weather lightens up a bit, and soon.

I have bought two packs of Christmas cards from the Unicef stall at the Christmas Market last night (the market opened last night and will run right through the four weeks until Christmas), so I will start writing cards this weekend or some time next week.
Our weather was nowhere near as wet as yours, but grey skeys with only a few hours of sun here and there plus early darkness mean I don't get to see much light during work days. The first snow of this season is forecast for this Sunday!

The weather is tolerable. It is better than ice to make you slip. Snow to make you cold. Winds to give you gip.

You are not alone. Everyone I met on my walk yesterday had a complaint about the weather - and their dogs didn't look too enthusiastic either!

We're forecast some cold weather for the end of the week so, although it means it will turn chilly, we can at least look forward to some bright sunshine.
Your lunch sounded delicious. X
