Wintry

There is a wintry feeling in the air today - it is dull and a damp cold hangs over everything.   Thermal vest is being worn - what am I to do when 'real' winter arrives?   At the Golf Club where we have our Sunday lunch, the golfers were in short sleeves and many of them still in shorts.   Put it down to a combination of old age and thinning blood.

Horse Chestnut leaves and Silver Birch leaves are falling today I have noticed and there is a touch of Autumn in the air.   The bungalow opposite has a magnificent patch of purple Autumn Crocus in the centre of the front lawn.   I love them - they always seem to appear overnight with no warning.  I will try to take a photograph of them to put on for tomorrow for anyone who doesn;t know what they are.

Only three of us for lunch today - W is at a wedding.   I had salmon on a bed of spinach (salmon Florentine) with lovely veg; W2 had the same but without the spinach and without any veg.  C had Penang Curry with rice.

Tess has gone off for a walk with her friend H, who rang just before I went off for lunch to say she would take her this afternoon.   She is not back yet and will certainly not need another walk today.
That is good news = I took her on quite a long one this morning.

We went for a walk this morning and although it looked quite autumnal and there was a smell of wood smoke hanging in the air, the temperature was actually quite mild. The air was so still, unlike the windy weather you've been experiencing. X

It is still quite mellow down here. Beautifully fresh but still warm. So much easier to cope with than the dreadful humidity which just flattens me.
Your lunch sounds delicious and I look forward to seeing those autumn crocus if you get a photo for us.

Thank gawd I don't live in Yorkshire, if that's the weather you're getting. Here it has been as hot and sunny as a July day. Went to NT Knole today, Vita Sackville West's birthplace and my fourth visit, a lovely visit and so many people in shorts enjoying the heat.

Cool and damp here too today. We have just switched on the heating for a while to take the chill off. Fleecy pyjamas tonight I think.

We've had a resurgence of summer in Devon at the moment. It was 21' earlier with a warm breeze. Fingers crossed it will continue into the week. I've it heard of Autumn Crocus before, so would love to see a photo.

Falling leaves and thermal vests, I’m not liking the sound of that. The weather in Italy is hot and settled, I’m still sleeping on top of the bed rather than in it and of course still I’m flip flops. I have noticed however that the wild cyclamen are starting to flower, that’s not a good sign. Hope the week warms up a bit for you.

Beautiful weather, hot and sunny in Worcestershire, my car thermostat said 22 degrees.

15C today - not cold, not exactly warm either, and grey. Reports of fine, sunny weather in the east are making me jealous. High rainfall areas don't come with high sunshine levels!

Your car thermostat must be very clever Gillian if it tells you the outside air temperature.

Blue sky again here today, still avoiding autumn as long as possible.

I think your chilly weather is due to visit us tomorrow, though I quite like this time of year for walking.

Thin blood! That's what my father-in-law used to diagnose when I shivered all through my 30s and 40s. I'm suddenly not feeling it so much now that the 50s are here but I'm not looking forward to more years of being cold if it turns "thin" again...W2 really just had salmon, it seems!

Now on Monday it has warmed up considerably and is a lovely day. Just off across the road to take a photo of the autumn crocus.
