Flaming June.

Well all you folk there in the South East - I think, after reading your posts, that we have got off quite lightly up here.   Yes it has been windy and yes it has rained all day (and probably all last night as well) but not in sheets and although it is wet and soggy everywhere the wind has now more or less died to a breeze and the rain is just a light showery rain and there is a feeling that just perhaps it is going to be a bit better tomorrow.   We shall have to wait and see.

I had lunch (fish and chips) out with a friend D today at Tennants Auction House in Leyburn (Google it if you want to see our fantastic Auction House) and afterwards we wandered round an exhibition of the work of William Morris.   What a talent and how timeless his designs were - they lose none of their beauty as time goes by and are as fresh today as they were when he was alive.   I think of them all perhaps 'The strawberry thief' is  one of my favourites.

It is an image familiar to everyone.

H took Tess for a long walk this evening, brought her back and came in for tea and cake and a chat, and that passed a nice couple of hours .   On grey days like this it is nice to sit and chat to someone when one lives alone.   Now it is almost time for a programme I want to watch on Dementia - how good it is that at last we are all able to talk about it.   It is out in the open and much better for it.

Here in North Wales we have had days and days of rain and there is more to come. The fields around our little market town are flooded.

Went out earlier to photograph the Sahara sand clouds passing overhead. They explained on the weather news that the dirty sand falling on the white snow on the mountains reduces the amount of sunlight reflected back into space by the snow blankets and therefore the snow on the mountains melts more quickly than it otherwise would. The combination of sand, sun, tropical weather, twice the normal snow depth, and the depression over Britain which is driving the snow our way (yes, you are also to blame) means that the River Inn may overflow tomorrow. It is at a 100 year high water bank. Innsbruck is on flood alert. That's our weather update for today.

I do miss my fish chips and mushy peas!

I went to the William Morris Gallery a few weeks ago and agree his designs are beautiful. Yes lots of wet here except for Sunday which was beautiful.

My mother was a great fan. She had WM curtains and wallpapers. They were so rich and comfortable.

I admire William Morris and would enjoy that exhibit.

Here on Sheppey (Weds) it began raining steadily and continually at 11.00 and finally stopped at 8pm, so here in the normally dry North Kent, we are now as water-logged as everyone else. However, today should see the start of several dryer, sunnier and eventually warmer days, although it'll be a day or so before I can get on the garden again.
William Morris does nothing for me I'm afraid, as does most forms of art.

While I don't think I'd want William Morris wallpapers, curtains and so on in my home, I admire his designs, and the entire Arts & Crafts philosophy speaks to me.
You are right about dementia, it is important to make people aware of it and thus help not only those who have it but also those who care for the sufferers, at home or elsewhere.

I don't recall that dementia couldn't be talked about when I was young. Medically not so much was known about diseases of the elderly and, more to the point, people died and weren't kept alive for the sake of it, so dementia never featured. Most of my relations dropped dead in their 70s.

Here on Sheppey, we have a Dementia Cafe where people suffering from it can attend and other people can learn about it. I went to the hospital with my ex-father-in-law on Monday, where he was diagnosed with both vascular dementia and ordinary dementia - not a nice prospect.

Nothing can quite top a good fish and chip meal but it has to be good and not swimming in grease. We have been on a long curve about dementia, which is finally being understood, but sometimes all this recognition of various symptons does tend to be worrying.

It is now known that much of the work attributed to William Morris was in fact the work of his daughter May.

While it hasn't been as wet as the weather forecasters threatened, it's been a good deal damper than most of us would like.

I love the work of William Morris and it is a testament to his genius that his designs are still being produced.
The weather in the UK seems all the worse because it is June and we should be living on salad and cooling drinks, not huddled indoors wearing woollies and trying not to put the heating on. It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so chilly. I think the planet is weeping because of our stupidity.
Glad you have friends to cheer you up. We all need cheering up at the moment.
It is wonderful that so much more is understood about dementia, and other mental illnesses these days, and that they are not hidden away any more but discussed openly like any other illness.
Keep warm and dry!

I listened to a radio program recently where the discussion was about dementia and two things that may prompt memory among dememtia patients, photos and music.
I thought of your ukelele group and how each time they hear your group play, people listening are able to recall tunes they once knew well.
Keep up the good work!!
