Sunday

Today didn't begin auspiciously because as I was tidying round prior to having my shower I noticed a vase of Mothering Sunday flowers had almost died so I took it into the kitchen and sorted out the few blooms which were salvageable and put them into a smaller container.   As I was carrying them back to their place in the sitting room I tripped over a chair leg where I had left my breakfast chair pulled out from the table.   I fell heavily on my left side into the hall, throwing flowers and water everywhere.  I lay there for a couple of minutes and then sat up to make sure I hadn't broken anything.  Then, shuffling on my bottom to the chair I had fallen over (anyone my age will verify that getting up from the floor is nigh on impossible), I finally twisted over on to my knees and pulled myself up into a sitting position - and then sat there for five minutes to 'come to'.  I dressed and took Tess round the block for her morning walk, reasoning that it would do me good to move gently for a quarter of an hour rather than sit.

It is now quarter past ten at night and, although I am sore in a few places, I am alright and am able to move around.   It didn't stop me going out to lunch as usual.  Dare I say that that is four times this week?  Smoked trout, scampi, quiche and salmon in that order.   This week, coming up to Easter, will be much more controlled!

Our weather forecasters speak of it getting warmer as the week goes on and letting the dog out just now for her last wee I must say that that sharp frosty feeling has gone - so perhaps the warmer spell has already started.   I do hope so.

I do hope you are fine after your fall. Have an easy day tomorrow.I cannot get up from the floor anymore and am terrified of falling. It is so easy to get distracted and then “oops”.You are made of tough stuff and will be fine.Onwards and upwards.

Falling is such a shock to the system - I've had a few, including one nasty one. They don't half knock the confidence. Take especial care of yourself for a few days.

At first I thought you'd written that you had fallen 4 times. Much happier that it's out to lunch for times. Take extra care tomorrow.

Oh well, it didn't put you off your hay.

Glad you are okay and as you say its best to keep moving if you can. So you have had another lovely meal out. Its still a cold strong wind tomorrow forecast, fed up with it.

Sorry to read of your fall do hope you remain ok may be a bit stiff in the morning, will you be getting a be more careful sort of warning when you tell you son? I know I would end up feeling like a naughty child.

Fingers crossed you are still okay tomorrow with no more than the usual aches and pains. I measured my length on the sidewalk today (tripped over a protruding kerb stone), sat there for a while as I checked out the painful areas. No one came over to see if I was OK! I just have a skinned knee but it could have been so much worse.

Thank goodness you are doing okay. It may have helped that you went out and walked it off as long as you felt like doing so. The older I get the more I have to remind myself to be careful and watch for trip hazards. Happy to hear you got some nice lunch plans this week! I hope it is warmer for you.

So glad you didn't break anything! Falls can be so serious and there's only so much you can do to prevent them. Hope you're not too sore tomorrow. I've noticed that you do love seafood!

Oh, Sue, I've done that, and recently. You're correct, the worst part of righting yourself is getting back on the knees and finding something to pull up by. Take care.

Getting up off the floor is hard even with 2 four legged helpers.
I hope you will feel better soon.

cheers, parsnip

Oooops, falling is so easy to do!! So smart of you to rest a bit & then keep moving - that may save you from a lot of stiffness tomorrow. I was watching a Youtube video showing all the ways to get up after a fall. I'm going to try to find it again, just in case. Falling is not funny & I'd end up peeing myself as well as all the other indignities. But you did good. Maybe it's because of all the seafood?? That protein keeps your muscles from turning to mush!! Have a good night.

Sorry to hear about your fall. Falls can be scary and it's hard to regain your confidence.

Oh dear, poor you. I remember that feeling well after having fallen from a ladder a couple of years ago. Stay still, then check each limb one by one. The relief when you find that everything still works is amazing!

Ouch.
Hope you have woken up this morning without too many sore bits.
Falling happens so quickly but getting up has to be much more slowly.

I hope you're not too sore this morning, Pat. X

Well, as my parents used to say, if you can still go out there can't be that much wrong with you.

So relieved you didn't do any damage to yourself when you fell. I have had one or two near misses myself. Also pleased it didn't stop you from walking Tess or keep you from your lunch date.

Oh goodness! That was a close call Weaver! I hope the exercise afterwards has helped. You are sure to creak a bit tomorrow, just be gentle about how far you push yourself until you feel 100%. Falls do shake you up, even if there's no damage.

I had my own near disaster last week. Our Goldie bolted on me when she got a fright out walking, and headed straight between my legs, leaving me sprawled on the pavement. The darned dog, meanwhile, is heading off at great speed right up the middle of the road, heading for home! I had to phone my husband to bring the car down to catch her. Fortunately she knows the car well and stopped straight away and jumped in. They then came and collected me, still limping!

Much better today - slept well, still stiff and a bit achey but not enough to stop me doing anything - I am sure it will get better each day from now on. Thanks for your concern.

What a scare! So glad you feel alright, and it is remarkable how you did not let it get you down at all but went about your usual activities. Hats off to you, Pat!
The warmer weather has already arrived here. After a very nippy Saturday and Sunday, it is gorgeous today - I even left my coat at home when I went to the gym in the afternoon!
