Moss

However quickly I sweep up the moss from the patio at the back of my bungalow it still appears again as if by magic.   No magic involved.   I find it is the blackbirds pecking and scratching at the clumps of moss which have formed on the roof's North side over the Winter.   They fall off and then the birds scratch them apart - presumably looking for anything that moves that is eatable.   Tess wanders in through the patio doors and paddles bits of moss into the house and then I have to start again.   Ah well, it keeps me busy.

Another really beautiful day here today and we went for a stroll round after tea tonight, stopping here and there to chat to folk gardening  or  just enjoying the remains of the day. Now we are back and shortly my favourite gardening programme will be on the television.   Monty Don, accompanied by his two Labrador Retrievers ,
will be giving all sorts of tips for the week ahead.
These days there is so little I can do in the garden but I often list a few jobs when I have watched his programme. I do know that we urgently need rain but let's hope it keeps off until after the Easter holiday; it is so good today to see everyone wandering around our little market in their shirt-sleeves.   Enjoy your holiday.

I've just watched our weather forecast. A third of the country has had virtually no rain for a month. Temperatures are set to climb to 27 C (80.6 F) in the next few days.

We have just arrived back home this evening from our break and it seems that the UK is having better weather than we have experienced during our holiday! I hope the bank holiday weekend weather remains good for those who have time off. Perhaps we shall have rain when everytone is back at work next week?
Hope you have enjoyed Gardeners World.

Hope you enjoyed Gardeners World as much as I did. Best programme on TV, Monty is so lovely, and how lovely to see Rachel de Thame tonight, looking really well after her diagnosis last year of Breast Cancer. Bosvigo Garden where Carol was visiting is very close to where I live and I visit the garden every February when the garden is open to view all the beautiful spring flowers. Have bought some beautiful Hellebores from their plant sales stall. Having the same problems with our blackbirds, they love the little grubs they find inside the moss. Enjoy your garden, it's so theraputic even if your just sitting looking at natures marvels. So enjoy your blog. Take care.

We had similar moss problems in our family home, but it was at the front of the house. Bits would be trodden in through to the hallway and I was always sweeping them up.
Another glorious day here too, and a wonderful full moon tonight.

It is nice to be able to wander out into the garden, whether you are a gardener or not. I dread the thought of downsizing to an apartment, which will happen eventually. I will hang on here as long as possible!

Weave, has anyone ever told you what a daily delight you are? I truly enjoy your lovely on-line journal. Thank you.

It's lovely when the sun is shining and we all emerge for the spring like other animals coming out of hibernation.
Strolling round chatting to people we meet usually puts a smile on everyone's face.
Enjoy the sunshine and think of the sweeping up as part of your exercise for the day.
How are the ones you were given fitting in with your daily routines?
Happy Easter,
Sue.

We have the same problem with moss, but I suppose it gets rid of it from the roof. Mont Don's programme is always inspiring, probably the best one over the years of garden broadcasts.
Take care...

You, too, enjoy Easter, Pat!
Same here with the weather; it is really beautiful now and as warm as an average summer's day at 24 Celsius. Rain would be welcome but as far as I'm concerned, more so during the week, from Tuesday onwards when I'll be back at work.
O.K.'s parents have the same situation with birds pecking at moss on their roof; there are always small clumps of it in their courtyard.

We always have moss falling onto our front path - the house faces north. There's less in the summer, but it always grows back and is then washed off by our (considerable) rainfall. One of our neighbours fell for one of those 'clear your roof' scams. After watching men walking about her roof with no safety gear and high pressure hoses, there is no way that I would recommend that!

Can only be a few days now before someone complains about it being too hot.

Thank you all for your comments - I enjoy the Monty Don Gardeners' World so much - it is armchair gardening. And like you, it is lovely to have Rachel de Thame back.
Thank you Gail for your kind words too.
