Friday

The week-end is a meaningless term unless one is a) working during the week and b) having a partner to share your week-end with.   Yet, somehow, Friday has a special feeling to it.

Friend W and I always go out for lunch on Fridays and today friend M joined us.   For a change we went up to the bar at our local Golf Club.   The chef, Thierry, is French and it shows in his lovely cooking.   W had salmon gougons with salad and chips, M had scampi with similar trimmings and I had what I always have, which was a taster platter.
This is deep fried Camembert, deep friend salmon and chicken, deep fried mushrooms, chips and a salad.   It is now tea time but I could no more eat tea than fly to the moon.   I am replete.

I have taken Tess round the block on a utility walk (today is her PetPals day so she has had a long walk) and have now turned the central heating up a notch - it is very cold and windy here - and shall settle down and watch the six o'clock news.   Bet the headline is Brexit!***

***Wrong!!   But one of the headlines was about our friends in the deep South of the US and the terrifying Hurricane Florence which is sweeping through (and intending to stay put for a day or two I understand).    My heart goes out to all those who are in such a terrifying situation.

I have just watched Homes Under the Hammer and will now watch A Place in the Sun. I won't be watching the 6'O'Clock news. I have exercised my own mind on Brexit without needing to hear the BBC or ITV News Editors versions of it.

Your one-woman campaign is succeeding. Nothing about Brexit on the BBC News web-pages today. I suspect that's because the MPs have all gone home for a long weekend.

That sounds like a tasty lunch and nice to have a regular get together with friends. Today I will go to see the Follies, a song and dance review. Two friends of mine sing and dance in it and I admire them.

What a nice day. Your lunch sounds wonderful.
I watch the 6am news that is local then watch/listen to the first hour of national news at 7am, especially when it is about the wildfires or hurricanes where my friends or blog friends live.

cheers, parsnip and badger

Rachel has the right idea - I think I shall follow suit. I was wrong to day - it was not headline news . Perhaps John is correct - all had gone home for a long week end!

That lunch menu sounds so delicious. It made my mouth water as I am very gently losing weight so that it stays off this time.
That storm in the States must be horrendous. It covers such a wide area and is bound to do so much damage.

Do not watch the news as it is so biased. Agree with Rachel. Weekends are no different to other days when you are retired I find. Funnily enough when I was younger and had no partner I hated weekends, and even more so Christmas!

A lovely lunch. I no longer watch the news, and no longer have a television.

Can't subscribe to the meaningless weekend theory. Writing off around 100 days of your life each year as meaningless? Its a concept (maybe even a luxury) I can ill-afford.

Weekends mean very little to me. Everything I do during the week, I can also do at weekends. Days are all much the same; it's just the names that change.

I'm staying at a lovely old inn on Dartmoor this weekend with my partner and the remnants of Tropical Storm Helene are forecast to hit across the South West here on Monday night, glad I'll be back in warm and sunny Kent by then.

Your lunch sounds very nice except for the salmon, which I am not keen on.
For OK and myself, it is the last weekend of our two-week-holiday; we have been together now 24/7 and enjoyed it very much. It will be strange getting back to living our single lives during the week on Monday.

We're keeping an eye on the hurricane here, although it is miles away. Several family members live in the Carolinas so that's worrying. And then the graphs show the remnants of the storm heading up the Ohio River Valley, where I live. Even 4" of rain will cause serious flooding here, with our hills and the fast runoff.

Well it is Saturday today but really no different to yesterday or tomorrow. Thanks for joining in.

Being a bit younger, my life isn't so different. I just try take whatever small pleasures I can find

So true - working only a bit from home and living alone, one day just runs into the next. Just recently I was making a doctors appointment over the phone and the woman asked if Friday would work; I wracked my brain for a moment then said, "Hmm, let's see, what's today? Monday?" I honestly had NO IDEA what day of the week it was! There was silence, then in a strange voice, the woman said "Ma'am, today is Wednesday". Embarrassing :(
