Sunday

Pretty normal Sunday here with our usual jaunt out for Sunday lunch.    The rain kept off although it kept threatening - that's one of the troubles with our English weather; once it 'breaks' it takes it a long time to settle down again.   Still I shouldn't complain.   The rain came just right for the garden.

I have just watched 'Countryfile' with its hour-long tour of the Queen's Balmoral Estate.    I stress that I am not a Royalist particularly but the estate was nothing short of exquisite and so beautifully and efficiently run that everywhere was perfect.   I just can't begin to image how much it costs to maintain such a high degree of management.

It was followed by an hour long programme about Iraq which I had intended to watch but as I was having difficulty keeping awake (bad night) I decided to watch it another night on iplayer instead.

Nice lunch today - not the usual Sunday lunch as we all had salad (I had smoked haddock fish cake with chips and salad) - the other two had prawns with salad.   They looked longingly at my chips and it transpired that they had had a bet to see if I offered them one.  I had a lovely Le Creuset tureen of crisp, salty chips with fluffy centres - and I ate every single one myself - yes I am greedy but by golly they were good.   So sorry girls!

We had an awful, awful rain this afternoon, and then flooding warnings for north of me, with an inch and a half of rain in an hour.

You were being kind and thinking of their waistlines! It's been so warm down here - definitely salad weather, but after a few days I shall look forward to cooked meals again.

Heavy rain here too but very welcome as it brought in some fresher air (it's been very hot for the past week) and the garden was in dire need of a good soaking. Your lunch choice was a good one. Glad you enjoyed it.

I don't have chips often but when I do they are all mine!

My boss (who is my ex boyfriend and still a good friend) shared his chips with me last week at the canteen. They were excellent; that canteen never ceases to surprise me, they are nothing like the type of canteen I know from other clients' companies.
Sorry to hear you had a bad night. I hope you slept better last night.

The cooking of chips is quite a delicate art, nowadays we can have thin skinny frites or fat chips which I dislike. Middle road chips are best, now whether they should be cooked in lard is a matter of preference (I don't like the taste). But if they were good you hould have kept them all to yourself!

We had lots of rain here during Saturday evening, and localised flooding was the result. Life goes on and it is not the end of the world for the anybody.

Thanks - I feel better about it now I know you would have kept the chips to yourselves!

Quite right. It's much more fun to share things with your friends - except for chips!
