Lucky

Hawes, a little town in Wensleydale, is only fifteen miles from here.   Last evening a large black cloud hung over Hawes and I thought it was coming our way (lots of plants put in - watering needed).   But no - the evening brightened and we had no rain.

This morning on my dog walk I met J, who had been in Hawes last evening and told me they had had a cloud burst there and the streets were running with water. So we were lucky - we really don't want that kind of rain with all the new plants.

Today it has rained steadily all morning.   It is 3.10 and it is still raining.    Just the sort of rain we needed and so no need to water today.

Friend S called at lunch time and brought me three courgette plants and two runner bean plants which we planted in grobags.

Then, after lunch, I ordered the weed killer to start attacking the Mares Tail weed.    S took Tess for her lunch time walk for me (thank you S) so now I can relax with today's Guardian and put my feet up.
Maybe I am sticking my head in the sand like the proverbial ostrich, but - really - what can I do about any of the world's problems?   Absolutely
nothing other than worry.   So I have decided to
limit my worries to family, friends, the house and garden in that order - and I shall let everything else float above my head.   And if you think I am being selfish then so be it.

I don't think your being selfish at all Pat . I do much the same.. I used to watch the evening news on TV and i don't even do that anymore... Its gonna be what its gonna be with or with out me as a witness.. All i can really control is my little corner of the World...

We could seriously use the rain too but no harsh storm to go with it.. Picky aren't i..lol Glad to hear you got the needed rain anyway.. Chance of rain today...and cooler temps expected for the next few days.. hope it pans out. Big Hugs!! deb

Not selfish at all. What does worrying actually achieve ... nothing except to make the person worrying unhappy, on edge or stressed. I've never understood the drama created by worrying.

Keeping up to date with the news is okay if you can manage not to dwell on what you have read, seen or heard but worrying is futile unless there is something you can actually do to help or change events. You seem to manage a good balance.

It sounds like we've had similar rain to you, luckily not too overwhelming for the newly planted veggies on the hillside or the partly re-seeded paddock.

I'm old enough to have lived through both Kennedy assassinations as well as Martin Luther King so I'm no novice when it comes to national tragedies. Still, life in the US isn't easy these days. I'm worried and sad for our country. That's no way to live so I try to stay informed enough to vote, and even though it's a mid-term election coming up next Tuesday in California, it's crucial this year.

Like you, I am a recent widow. Dear friends keep me grounded. Keep me sane.

Right, no need to think about it. I know what I must do, and do it. No need to rant and rave. Glad your garden is coming on well.

I think you are very sensible - it is so hard not to dwell on some of the world's problems, but what good are we doing worrying ourselves into a frazzle on matters over which we have no control. I do what I can to help and make sure I don't take anything for granted.
Glad the cloudburst missed you and hope it didn't do too much damage to Hawes.

I don't think you're being selfish-I'd call it self-preservation and I do a fair amount of it myself! The joy that friends, family and home bring me are what I try to focus on and I feel much better for it!

It has rained most of the day here and is now thundering in the distance. I am watching Escape to the Country.

I have 5 a day. I sign 5 petitions, thats my contribution to the worrying news. Sometimes it works, the petition I mean.

It has finally rained here. Not much, but enough to water the gardens.
I don't think you're being selfish at all Pat. The news can be depressing and, as you say, there's not a lot you can do about it. X

So far we have avoided the worst of the weather, although there have been some big cloudbursts locally that have flooded cricket pitches!

I envy you your watering from above, Pat. Very dry and warm here, - we are hoping for a wet June to dampen the forests and discourage the wild fires that were so devastating last summer.

These last few decades are not the time to be worrying about the world's woes, I think. Better to be concerned about family and kindnesses, wherever it is possible to bestow it....

I think we all should let go a bit with the worries of the world and you certainly are not selfish.
Like you I am trying to ignore the bits that make me unhappy but it's not easy is it?

Letting go is sensible. I think the major world problems are beyond my influence for the most part (voting in elections being an exception) and worrying in the middle of the night doesn't change anything. So I too, try to keep my worrying to those things I can change.

Glad the rain cooperated.

It poured here all day, well most of it. We can't alter what is happening in the political field above us except by voting, so perhaps it is best to close our minds to it. And also, we must return to our old rich culture of words, music and painting.

I don't blame you Weave. I sort of wish I could do the same.

I get so stressed out from all of the alarming things that tRump is doing here in the States that I do no news breaks....you can't imagine the daily stress many of us suffer from. I agree with your method..but I WILL VOTE!!!!

Sometimes the stress is just too much - we do what we can, when we can, and then have to take care of ourselves. The US is in such a mess and no one seems able to stop the run-away train. Yesterday the idiot's lawyers declared, in writing, that the president of the US can do anything he wants, meddle in other parts of the government, break ANY law and he can't be held accountable because he IS the law - what a load of ---- - not true at all, but they think that they are so powerful that if they say something it becomes the law - one day they will find out different - but in the mean time we suffer terribly as a nation (well, not his rich cronies, but the rest of the people - and especially the poor). It is a sad time for the US - but we carry on when we can.

We have been discussing this a few times on your blog, Pat, and so far everyone (at least that is how I remember the comments) agrees with you. We can't do much beyond our limited sphere of personal influence, and worrying ourselves sick won't help one bit.
I still like to know what is going on - at least the most important things which also reflect on my own life - but I have a talent for cold-bloodedness and ignoring things I feel are not my concern. I have had nasty remarks from people close to me about this in the past, but that is me; it keeps me (relatively) sane.

Spot on with this write-up, I truly suppose this web site wants much more consideration. I’ll in all probability be once more to learn way more, thanks for that info. casino slots
