Sunday

I have come back from Sunday lunch stuffed to the gunwales with macaroni cheese - and very good it was too with its salad on the side.   Our Sunday restaurant does the best veggie menu of anywhere I know and now I am back and feel like sitting down for an hour or two to recuperate.   I intend to make a pot of tea and pick up my book.   I just hope that Tess doesn't start making 'I want a walk' sounds for the foreseeable future.   See you all tomorrow.

I make a 4 cheese baked macaroni and cheese that I jokingly call "a heart attack in a casserole dish" because it has pounds of cheese and butter. It's delicious, but I only make it at Thanksgiving and/or Christmas. It's far too rich to eat too often!

Now I want macaroni cheese for supper - when I know already it's chicken soup. Oh!

I used to make macaroni cheese with some bacon in the bottom in the early 1970s before there was any such thing as a ready-made or instant anything except mashed potato. Work all day then get home and make a meal from scratch. I haven't made or had macaroni cheese since. It is funny what they serve in restaurants these days.

I had Sunday Roast at a pub today and with the veg came a small pot of hot cauliflower cheese, something I haven't had for years and it was terrific.

I hate Macaroni Cheese. Up here in the North East of Scotland it figures on every cafe/restaurant menu. You would be in seventh heaven Weave.

Our mac and cheese sounds a whole lot like Jennifer's. Laura would have it on the table every night, if I'd let her. Mind you, I wouldn't mind. But, I'd be dead.

Our main meal today will be chicken meatballs in red sauce over pasta. I do love mac and cheese of any sort.

Macaroni and Leek Gratin won me a prize at a produce show once. It was Mac cheese with leeks in and cheese and breadcrumbs on top. Gratin sounds posher!

I had a good laugh at Joanne's comment. Anything in a cheeses sauce is tops in my books.

I make macaroni cheese from scratch, but I add lots of bacon, and then blanched broccoli florets, then I can tell myself it's "good for me". I find it freezes well and is a great stand-by when we feel like we need more than a soup but not a full meal. I think I know what's on the menu for tomorrow evening. Thank you for spurring me on Weaver!

It sounds as if your concert went off most successfully, too. Well done.

Cheese features rather prominently in my diet, but I very rarely eat pasta - I prefer bread. Last night, I had Turkish flat bread with herb butter and omelette, accompanied by a leafy salad with red pepper.

That sounded very good to me and I hope Tess allowed you a cuppa and some time with your book before dropping hints about walkies.

Mac and Cheese sounds like a wonderful lunch, and what better on a Sunday afternoon than a good sit down after a large lunch.

Did you manage to drag yourself out of your chair for a little walk with Tess later?

Abandonment of animals makes me both sad and angry. We have three 'boys' who have become treasured members of the household--dumped 4 years ago at the end of the driveway, bone-thin, dirty, but so obviously not feral kittens. Rather resignedly we took them in--bathed, fed, neutered, etc. But--there are so many to wrench at one's heart.
We suspected there was a 4th kitten who became a homeless stray--he was a near twin of one with distinctive markings, often spotted on a stretch of road nearby, but quickly became wild.

Such a sad little kitten story. I see little kittens on the roadside at night...barn cats, I guess.
I will be seeing Dunkirk so looking forward to it.
Hang in there, Weaver'; your are doing so well all considered.
