Thursday

I didn't sleep too well because just before bedtime I suddenly (for no apparent reason) couldn't actually remember ever insuring my new car.   When I went to bed I went through the insurance file and could find no trace of doing so, so I resolved to ring my Broker at nine this morning and make sure everything was in order.   I couldn't of course drive down to Masham to talk to him about it because I was scared I wasn't insured.  This morning I took the file down stairs to look through again over my breakfast and there was the Insurance Certificate on the top of the papers!

The other thing which happened when I camec down stairs was that I did so in a violent thunderstorm.   Switching on the television I saw the weather girl standing at Wimbledon in glorious sunshine while here it was absolutely teaming with rain.   I think the storm has passed over but it is still very dark and gloomy.

Thursdays are the day for my hair appointment and today for a manicure too.   It is also a day when I usually eat at home so I shall clear a bit more of my freezer out - today honey and vegetable parcels which look very nice on the packet; I will report on the taste later.

Suddenly being left on one's own does leave one vulnerable to these feelings of uncertainty about whether things have been done or not.   In spite of the fact that I have always done the farm accounts and taken care of any administration I must say that finding out that I really had done the insurance for my car was a great relief and I do begin today on a much higher note.   I hope you do too.

We are not alone! All sorted. Fortunately our garage is across the field. x

It is so hard to trust one's own abilities at times - all's well that ends well! I hope you sleep better tonight.
Those honey and vegetable parcels sound interesting. I now have things on my shopping list like: 'no meat' or 'no veg'! I love buying vegetables, and eating them, but haven't got used to the fact that I am going to have to eat them all. The freezer is slowly being run down as long as I don't fall for any more bargains.
We are supposed to have thunderstorms today but they may miss us altogether.

I think it is what is called a 'moment of panic' of which I have many. Today we work online, ordering things, etc. But the solid proof of purchase is sometimes difficult to find. Keep your phone nearby and talk to friends when you panic ;)

It would be terrible if they crushed your new car, Weave...

I guess we envy each other's weather today Pat. Storms and a nice drop of rain were forecast for us today but as usual it looks like our drought is continuing, any I suspect the lovely weather we're having here would be too hot for you. I've basically lived on my own for 17 years now, by choice, and you don't get any better at remembering things, I still have Post-it reminders everywhere.

I remember a women at a checkout once turning quite pale when she couldn't find her purse to pay for her shopping. Her panic and fear was evident until I told her she had it in her hand the whole time. When we panic we can't see what's in front of us. We've all done it and you wonder if you're going crazy because you didn't see it! Hope you enjoy your manicure.

Oh, how I hate those moments of panic when your mind can play tricks with you and you imagine the worst. X

It's awful to suddenly worry you haven't done something important. I make lists all the time! Boiling hot here. Just back from walking the dogs and it's sweltering. They are collapsed on the cool floor panting! I wish for cooler temps and a drop of rain, so could you send your thunderstorm south please?!

I would be unplugging the tv in a violent thunder storm Weave, not turning it on. I am about to pull all the plugs and phone out here because a storm is just coming.

When I've just gone to bed so very tired is when I think of things done or undone and lay for hours wondering...finally going to sleep and waking up tired :)

Big storm in Japan. Two months rain in 9 hours. Unprecedented. 500,000 evacuated. We can count ourselves lucky.

Our weather is topsy turvy this summer. I'm not complaining as it is usually exceptionally hot and dry. Glad your insurance is in force. I wouldn't have slept a wink.

I read comments from bottom to top, and was smiling at all the advice until I reached Tom's to the point dismissal of your car being crushed for want of an insurance certificate. We bored him today. Good fellow to have read on through. He must sleep like a baby.

Always worse when you think of these things at bedtime. I'm sure it was a relief when you found it this morning.

With all you've been through and are going through, there must be a lot on your mind, and that's when we are most vulnerable to forgetfulness and doubt. So glad it all turned out well in the end.

That must have been a relief to see those papers! There was your shot of adrenalin for the week! We have had a beautiful hot break from the rain these past few days, but more rain and storms are on their way - actually have water in the basement from all the rain! -Jenn

I get flashes like that when I can't remember if I've done something. Sometimes Mac remembers, sometimes neither of us remember. Relax at the hairdressers.

Hopefully, finding the Certificate of Insurance restored the confidence you must place in yourself. You've taken a lot on in the midst the grieving, is it any wonder the thought process can sometimes seem a little cloudy?

Since losing my husband, there have been many times I've said, "Whew. I'm not losing my mind."

I've been known to do really daft things when I'm in love. Once I took a bag full of rubbish to the supermarket instead of dropping it into the bin on my way out.
After Steve died, I had trouble remembering anything to do with numbers, even my own postcode. It was as if my brain had decided to outsource anything that was not of vital importance, to allow me to come to terms with losing my husband so completely out of the blue only 5 days after he turned 41.

I have no idea what the weather is going to at all here! I have cricket nets at about 630pm and the expected storms have not yet materialised here, it's just very hot and humid.

You must have felt so reassured when you saw that certificate to realize that you had not forgotten after all!
