Success

Well Imust say that the meal today took the minimum of preparation, was easy to present even in its  odd dishes and cutlery, and was all very nice.

My salads worked quite well.   I took Rachel's advice and served the hard boiled eggs with just lettuce and mayo and without the pineapple.   The giant cous-cous salad and the French bean salad both worked well and took no time at all to prepare.

My great grand daughter, Ula, is a delight at eight months old.  They are calling to see me in the morning before they begin their return journey to Glasgow.

Glad you headed the post "Success". I might have worried about the pineapple if you hadn't.

What a wonderful spread. I am full from my evening meal but my mouth still watered at the sight of your lovely salads. You will no doubt see a big change in Ula the next time she comes to visit. A few weeks makes such a difference at that age.

Delicious looking and very healthy. I'm not vegetarian, but my son is, so I sometimes deal with this challenge, too...

They look wonderful, I'll bet they were a huge success.

Sorry Pat, but lettuce, why do people still serve that up, it has about as much nutritional value as wet paper, much better water cress or wild rocket.

Your salads look so good.I want to try some.
I love hard boiled eggs. Some time I take the yolks and mash with a bit of plain old yellow mustard, salt and pepper and if needed a very small amount of Japanese mayo. So tasty.

cheers, parsnip

I've eaten (and like) a lot of regular couscous, but have never had the giant couscous. Will be on the lookout for some. Glad for your success.

I've never seen that 'Giant Couscous' before; mine in always called 'moyenne' (medium).

It all looks good enough to eat, especially the bean salad.

Derek - this is little gem lettuce and it makes suitable containers for halved hard boiled eggs and with a good dressing is quite eatable. I do use watercress a lot, usually in sandwiches, but sometimes lettuce makes a pretty addition to a salad if wisely used - and lets face it - the look of a salad enhances its value as a food because it gets the digestive juices flowing. Celery takes more calories to eat than there are in it. Many of the foods we eat are sugar laden and of poor food value. There is more to life than making sure everything is of good nutritional value - a little of what you fancy does you good as they say. As a child my friend's father used to grow rows of lettuce and as I went there to tea night after night we seemed to always have lettuce sandwiches - we both grew into strong healthy lasses (and are still going strong and speak regularly on the phone)- so I shall continue to eat my lettuce andleave the rocket to you (don't like the stuff).

Oh well, rocket it is for me then and funnily enough I'm just as fit and strong through never eating lettuce, or cabbage as well.

Derek I love all sorts of lettuce. I think Arugula is rocket ? I love it But I can see why many people do not like it.
Especially a soft on like red or butter when I want a taco or hamburger without the carbs and for me just as tasty

I feel that just as long as you eat some veggies in your day all is good. And you seen to be doing just great.

I adore cabbage salad,I also pickle it. I don't make it but I love kimchi. .
At my favorite Korean restaurant they serve several dishes on a lettuce leaf. Son and I fight over the wilted but oh so tasty lettuce
covered in kimchi and sauce.
