Rabbits!

Rabbits have materialised again after an absence of several weeks.   Suddenly the hedges are full of them.   Perhaps they were missing because the grass was long and they could hide.   Now the fields have been silaged it is much easier to see what is going on in the hedge bottoms.

Once Tess sees a rabbit she can focus on nothing else and becomes totally and completely deaf.   It is pointless calling her so once I locate her I have to put her on the lead otherwise I would be standing waiting all afternoon.

Out for our usual coffee this morning and then over to Middlemoor Farm Restaurant for our lunch - W had Minestrone and I had Thai Mango and Coconut soup, then W had goat's cheese salad and I had brie and bacon quiche with salad.  Delicious all round.

Now back home I have ordered some new ink cartridges for my printer, taken Tess for a walk, taken down three pictures to go to the Charity Shop (one of my two jobs planned for each day) and I am now going to sit down and read The Times (half past two in the afternoon).

That's great that the rabbits are back! I know you were wondering if a disease had wiped them out. I'll bet Tess is pleased as well. -Jenn

The lunches all sound delicious. There are lots of rabbits around here. It's funny to see their little ears sticking up through the long grass. X

A pleasant day I would say.

I assume that it's not sweltering hot there then Pat, as it is here. Here on Sheppey, rabbits, that used to be counted in mega thousands, are now reduced to many hundreds. All the result of disease and over-intensive culling. Still enough for Ellie to chase and catch though.

At the farm I saw many rabbits, yet at the city house, I saw my first one across the lake yesterday. There are few predators around the lake, so I am surprised to see so few. Sounds like your day was a good one. It will be nearly 100 degrees today and it is already sweltering. I just finished spraying for ants. Seems all my rat catching efforts aren't working because the ants are all over the bait. Jeez.

We haven't yet bunny proofed our wildflower meadow, and someone's been having a little dig! lavender and catmint required soon!

Yes the rabbits we're slow to make an appearance this year here too. But now they are making up for lost time. Ginger is having a field day catching them all. Unfortunately he tends to eat the heads and tummies and leaves the rest for me to find ...yuk!!

At 2 in the afternoon you sound as accomplished as some people don't do all week!
I would have gone for the brie and bacon quiche, too.
Glad to know the rabbits have apparently not all died from that terrible disease.

All before 2 ! Not bad going, in fact its about 2 hours before that I am ready to do stuff. Lots of rabbits around us but never seen one in the garden, tho I see the moles are back.

Never worry about rabbits is all I can say on the matter.

The only problem we have with rabbits is the cats bringing home dead baby ones and leaving them partly eaten in the kitchen! At least yours are where they belong . . .

That lunch sounded lovely and I am glad to hear that you sat and read your newspaper this afternoon - rest is always good for the body and soul.

I have trouble leaving the newspaper--or any printed material that has my attention.

That sounds like a highly satisfactory day. Glad the rabbits are about again - I know they are a pest to some, but they are so delightful to look at. Those lunches sound delicious - here's to the next one!

We went to Newcastle a few years ago, and on the traffic islands, which were little islands of grass and shrubs were rabbits, hemmed in my by the traffic going round them , it was a strange sight.

I notice that Middlemoor Farm Restaurant gets a five star rating on Trip Advisor - based on visitors' reviews.

I have the same problem with Penny. Being a Greyhound, retired or not, if she sees certain cats or any Grey Squirrel or Rabbit her hunting instinct kicks in. Pure concentration on one thing and deaf and blind to anything else around her.
