Tuesday 20 June 2017

The heat rises and I find it very wearing.   It seems churlish to complain but although it is lovely to see the sun in June I find it difficult to find enough energy to even water my pansies and ferns in their pots.

Sleeping (even 'au naturelle' (not a pretty sight I assure you))  under just one sheet is hard so that energy is lacking during the day anyway.

This morning there is heavy cloud here in the east of the UK and also thick mist.   There is also a slight breeze blowing - but it is still very hot.

'Strugglers' this morning followed (hopefully) by a lunch out if anyone fancies it in this hot weather.
Yesterday I made my own lunch at home - various green veg stir-fried with a few spring onions and then topped with pineapple chunks chopped into small pieces and sprinkled with a few chilli flakes.
I topped this with a few slices of grilled streaky bacon which I needed to use from the fridge and the result was surprisingly good.   Strawberries for afters - hasn't it been a wonderful year for them?

Today - June 20th - would have been the farmer's 74th birthday.   Happy birthday my dear one, wherever you are - I think about you all the time and remember the happy times we had together.

Thick mist here as I drove across the marsh road at 05.30 and the vegetation on the reserve was sodden with dew, meaning my trousers and the dog, were soaked when we got back. A nice cool start to the day but it's warming up fast. Will be out on my bike at lunchtime for a three mile ride then home for a cold beer.

We are both wilting here in Sussex and to think that we used to spend whole days on the beach just laying in the sun. Tom has heart and lung issues so going out in this heat is not possible.
It does seem ungrateful to moan but it comes in with such a bang we are not used to it.
All of the cats are littered in the coolest places.
I'm sure your farmer is still very much with you in your heart and liking that you are carrying on even if when alone you are sad.
Roll on the cooler weather.

A bittersweet day for you no doubt.
Your lunch with the pineapple bits and bacon sounds good; I had to use up some bacon from my fridge, too, and made myself a bacon butty for tea last night.
Today is probably going to be the hottest day of the week here. I am at the office - no air conditioning, but fortunately, the windows do not face the sun and we are near the ground floor, so that it never gets so hot in here as to make us unable to work.
Still, I would not mind being elsewhere today; walking in shady green woodland, for instance.

I would spend the day alone.

I think that Rachel has got it dead right although the three of us might probably approach it and spend it, in different ways.

I know today is difficult for you, but hope your lovely memories get you through.
The heat is probably oppressive without air conditioning and coming quickly after really cool days - but at least you know it may not last long knowing British weather! Meanwhile here, in the 90's and humid, the old a/c is cranking overtime - and it's still Spring. . . . . . .at least for another day.
Hugs - Mary

I think it's hot all over the world, though we are just starting a decent week, and it will clear the Atlantic and be your way, soon.

Ah, I think "too hot" is a different quantity for all of us - my husband LOVES the heat and was at his happiest when he was in the desert. Not for me though I am lightly grilled today after much-needed weeding inbetween long cold drinks. I even went mad and bought a pair of shorts yesterday - purely for the house and garden, I might add!

My cats are conspicuous by their absence, and have obviously found cool spots about the garden.

A day of memories for you - perhaps it is better to sit where it is coolest and remember your happiest memories of your lovely man.

We had 3 inches of rain last night and it continues to drizzle today, which is normal for the beginning of the rainy season here. It did bring the temperatures to a more comfortable level. Hope you and Tess get some relief from the heat. You are in my thoughts, especially today.

A bitter sweet day for you today Pat - thinking of you. I long for the warm weather after a long wait but it always comes so suddenly and we have no time to acclimatise. Nighttime seems to be worse than daytime - even the mattress and pillow are too hot. Never mind, I daresay it will soon pass. I am hoping that it is too hot for the lawn to grow much! I certainly won't have the energy to cut it until the temperature drops.

We were wilting here in northeast Ohio for too long, but it is cooling off now, and I hope it will in Yorkshire, too. Would a small fan help you sleep better?

A sad day and it has not been that long since your dear husband left this world. Even now, ten years after my husband's death, some particular days are always especially difficult. From all you have written about him, he sounded like a lovely man,a wonderful companion....

A sad day to get through, but keep the good memories. Hot here too, if we didn't have air conditioning I couldn't make it.

I can barely breathe much less lift a finger if it is hot. It used to not bother me so much, but now... As a child, I never remember it being too hot.

Living in Tucson as I get older (and sicker) I find the heat harder to take.
I hope all your wonderful memories can help today.

Such kind comments - I would just like you all to know how much you have helped me through the past three months.
In fact I went to Strugglers- which is a meeting at the Quaker Meeting House where we have periods of silence and also talk about any problems anyone might have - it is very therapeutic and it helped me greatly this morning.
Then four of us went out for a lunch together and a lovely chat through that. Since I got home I have had a quiet time, read some of my book for my book club and had a chat to a friend on the telephone. The day has gone well - the memories have been happy ones.

My dear Weaver. It has been a while since I've visited all the blogs. For many unimportant reasons I have not written on my own since last summer. This night, at this late hour after staying up to welcome the summer solstice, you were in my thoughts and I followed the trail on your posts. I had no clue of the passing of The Farmer. I'm very sorry for your loss. Please know I am thinking of you.

Hi Pat, as you say the weather is extraordinarily hot, I am sure Tess does not need walks in this hot weather. Just come out of hospital (huddersfield Infirmary) broke my ankle. What a marvellous service the NHS is, if nothing else I would ask everyone to support a fabulous institution. If you think being naked is unnatural, trying hopping to the loo - knickers are definitely not wanted ;)

I never realised that your Farmer was younger than I, that came as a bit of a shock I can tell you!
For I never expect people younger to depart. So thinking of you on this special anniversary.
