Monday

Have you noticed how beautiful the wild roses are this year?  The sight of them rambling through the hedges round the fields makes the farmer's death all the more poignant because he loved them so.

Sadly, the weather today has not matched their beauty.   It has been cloudy, breezy and not particularly warm.   Tess and I have had our three walks but can't say I have enjoyed them.   Unless it is pouring with rain I don't think she notices what the weather is like.

I went into town to do various jobs, cooked myself some lunch, read The Times (pretty depressing reading at the moment) and packed my obligatory two boxes (thank you Jamie for bringing me another pile of boxes).

Yesterday I emptied my big old freezer.   I have had it almost twenty years and now that I am moving I really don't need two freezers as I shall be living alone and having no vegetable garden.
Today a scrap merchant friend came and took it away for me and I must say the space where it has stood for the last twenty years looks much better (and cleaner!) without it.

All  I have left to do now is to get half a dozen jig saws from under the stairs to take to a friend tomorrow.  She is a keen doer of jig saws and will then do them before taking them to the charity shop.   And that will leave another space.   Can't be bad.  Until tomorrow.....

More boxes for you - hooray :-)
You are so busy and disciplined, no wonder your body catches up with you every now and then and demands a rest!
Wild roses are wonderful, aren't they; I love their scent. This is the most "scented" time of year for me anyway, great to be out and about, unless the weather is really nasty.

Amazing how you have just got on with things and taking the dog for a walk three times a day is really terrific. Do you still follow the same eating times as you did with the farmer or does it vary day to day?

You seem to be on top of the job Weave. Look after yourself and don't get over-tired. Do you know where you are moving to? (You may have blogged about this and I have missed it)

Everything seems to be flowering more this year. I have a rose called Rambling Rector, well he certainly has. Needs tying up to the fence but I have never seen so many buds.

We seem to be getting the best of the weather down here in Suffolk, another fine day, breezy and mostly sunny. Washing on the line dried in just a few hours.

We are still discovering what's growing in our new garden, two mock orange bushes are covered with flowers.

2 more boxes tomorrow?

I am always so envious of the flowers you talk about. When I lived in Laguna Beach had roses, violets and so many orchids.
I miss that very much.

Yes lots of dog roses about here too! Also our council gardeners are very good here, lots of pretty plants that pollinators like in all the public gardens

I'm laughing at YP's comment. He's so cheeky.
Things seem to be going along well for you in the packing line and I'm sure getting rid of the old fridge makes you clap your hands..

Moving house is a real pain. As a student I worked one summer for a removal Co. Some people would simply go away on holiday and leave the whole business to us. Who can blame them!

Sounds like you are moving along nicely!

Apparently roses in general have been fantastic this year, I have around 40 David Austin ones in my garden and they have looked amazing. The dog roses around here come in two colours, a pale, almost white pink and a lovely deep pink. Today (Tuesday) and tomorrow, look like being hot and sunny.
I imagine that in some ways, you can't wait to move so that you can start anew.

I am always amazed by how Nature manages to look so beautiful in spite of our weird climate. Mother Nature just soldiers on, usually doing things at the right time whatever the weather. Just as you soldier on Pat, with all that has to be done. I hope you will be comfortable and as happy as possible in your new home, when you get there.

Did you know that the Queen is a keen doer of jigsaws too, Weave. She also gives them to charity - anonymously. I don't think she takes them to the shops herself.

I think this whole 'two boxes a day' approach is perfect. I imagine it is a shocker to see the space left by something that has occupied it for twenty years! Big freezers are handy when you are consistently using them, but useless monoliths when you are not! -Jenn

You are certainly diligent with your packing Pat - just watch your back if lifting full boxes, especially if packing up books, they are so heavy!
Glad you are getting out even on the dreary days - fresh air is always grand for the constitution - and with hedgerows of blooming, fragrant wild roses along the way it can't be all bad. Wish I could be there to walk with you and Tess. . . . . . I do have wellies!

Take care - you are special.

Yes, the wild roses are wonderful this year aren't they. We had an early flourish a few months back and now they are out in earnest, poking their beautiful faces through hedgerows all along our roads and lanes.

It's nice to see clear space where something that has stood for years once was isn't it. I am in the midst of a declutter too, although maybe not quite on your scale.

You are getting there and doing an amazing job as packing up to move is both physically and emotionally draining. Take Care. Sheila

Be kind to yourself..all the things that you are doing, the packing, the sorting the downsizing are things accomplished. However, they are because your husband has died, and I think altho all of us are congratulating you on your diligence we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that this is a heartbreaking time. Clearly you have wonderful friends and family, but it is hard, its raw and its painful when someone you loved has died and you are having to make a huge change in your life. Be kind to yourself.

Our very wet and long drawn out spring followed by reasonably warm weather has made this one of the best rose years I've ever seen. The wild roses (Rosa nutkana) are everywhere, my many, many David Austin roses are thriving and Siri's new bed of roses for cutting are thriving. It's a lovely June here.

Thinking of you often.

Think about you often Pat, - don't always get to read your posts each day. I echo "Grandmother's" words, - time helps but sometimes so much we shared with our loves ones surprise us with poignant moments, as you say about the roses.
