I have driven into Northallerton this morning and bought myself a new car. Our Astra is too big for my needs and I am not comfortable with it. We have had Vauxhalls from new for a long time now and the salesman, Andy, has been the same throughout - so I telephoned him and then went in to see him today.
The upshot is that I am now the proud owner of a new white Vauxhall Corsa - much more suited to my needs. It is a nice, nippy little car - much easier to park; just a nice little runabout. It should see me out I would think.

Excellent move Weave. I'm with you all the way.
Good decision. We sold our second car because we just didn't use it. Just new my practical hatchback.
Sounds just the job. There's a lot to be said for a car that's easy to park.
I had a blue Corsa for years, they are brilliant little cars. Have fun with your new purchase.
Easy to park is a big bonus. Our Hyundai is a pain at the hospital where parking is tight and scarce but the Fiesta is easy. Enjoy your new car
I'm envious that you can "call Andy, the salesman" and just cruise on down to the dealership and pick up your car. Next to having a good, reliable mechanic, that would be a comfort. Someone you trust.
Smart move. I hope you'll use any excuse to get out and about. I'll bet you anything it already includes a blanket on the backseat for Tess.
Right on! Enjoy.
From my one trip to England, I am now completely amazed at how people drive large vehicles on those narrow roads and up and down tight lanes. I think a smaller car is an excellent idea! -Jenn
We have little cars too and I love them. Cheap to run easy to park and zippy. Great idea x
Fabulous idea !
Smaller cars are easy to drive and park. I will have to look it up the car you bought.
I drive a VW Bug convertable in a light blue looks just like the Tucson sky.
Easy for me to get in and out of and for the small amount of driving I do it is rater zippy.
I can put my walker in the backseat too !
cheers, parsnip
Good move and easier to park, hope you enjoy it.

This sounds like an excellent purchase for you.
Good idea. We have a Corsa and I love it's size for parking as well. Enjoy your new car. Best wishes :)
I have a Vauxhall Agila, even smaller than the Corsa. We also have a Vauxhall Meriva which is way too big for me.I love my little Agila.Enjoy your Corsa. We also have a "man" Andre who finds our cars.
Perfect purchase. Hubby drives his big old Toyota 4 runner and I stay with my Honda Accord. Plenty of speed and gets me every where.
Good for you! I have a little Toyota Corolla and love it. I hope Tess likes the new car - :-).

Good for you! It's good you already knew and trusted the agent, and your new car should be just the biz for you. Is white a practical colour though?!!! We live next door to a dairy farm and should have got a certain shade of brown instead of silver!
Good for you! There is no reason to persist with a vehicle you aren't comfortable in. I hope your new car has parking sensors? I find them great - the beeping makes parking a dream. You know you can have them retrofitted too. It's more expensive than factory-fitted but still worth the extra I think. I also have a plastic/vinyl cover which keeps the worst of the dog hairs off the carseats, and the kind lads at the garage fitted it for me. Anything to save vacuuming out the car too often!
Have a good day - perhaps a reason for a tootle somewhere interesting, just to test out the new car?
Please show us a pic Pat. With Tess would be even better. I have never seen a car like yours.
Had 3 cars in last 20 years and all of them white. It's the best colour. Take care on the roads and enjoy!
I had a red Corsa years ago which I loved. We gave it to our daughter when she passed her driving test, as we knew it would be a good vehicle for her. Hope you enjoy yours Weaver.
Wishing you many many happy miles!
How exciting - and what a good idea. Small cars are so much easier to park. I could not agree more with one of your previous commenters. I can't imagine driving large cars around English narrow lanes in large cars - especially in Yorkshire with the dry stone walls waiting to grab you! I left all the driving to my husband on our visits over there. Cheers
A new car. That's so exciting, in a way!
Sounds very practical but exciting too.
Sounds perfect!
Dear Weaver, I have also left a message at your post that contains Anthea's lovely poem. Right here in this box I wanted to say that you've made a great decision with regard to the new car...and also to having the manicures and so forth. Sending you lots of love. xo
Big cars are a pain in the neck. My last big one was a Rover SDI 3,5 litre monster. My current much smaller Peugeot is friendlier, and much cheaper on petrol.
I think you did a wise thing! Enjoy your new car!
Oh My Gosh! I've just looked up the Vauxhall Corsa and it is wonderful! It does everything but cook the dinner, and perhaps it'd do that if you asked it!! You done good!!!
Good for you, happy motoring. When they invent a car that parks itself I shall be one of the first to buy. Hope yours doesn't have too many gadgets that take ages to learn how to use.
Thanks. When i have my first talk to my Corsa I shall tell her how much people admire her!
There is a link on my post 12 March to the scarf pattern, press Estuary in the second paragraph. If you have problems you can email me and I will send you a copy. jennyflipflops@gmail.com. It is an absolute pleasure to knit and wear, I'm already thinking about Christmas presents when I find suitably luxurious yarn.
That sounds a very good idea - the easier to park the better!
Congratulations on your new car. It makes sense to make life simpler, and with that in mind I have just bought a small flat.
Good idea getting a car that is easier. My daughter calls my little Kia Picanto a 'hairdressers car'. Slightly affronted by that but little cars are easier to park, all I want is a bleeper on the back for reversing.
