This and that.

Apologies for no post yesterday but it was quite a busy day.   In the morning we all met for coffee as usual - and this meant I wasn't home until time to get the lunch.

After lunch we made the journey to Darlington (about twenty-five miles away).   About six months ago the farmer backed into a wall with our almost new car and made a nasty dent and broke the back light.   On Thursday I did exactly the same on the other side.   Yesterday we went back to the Body Shop of the garage where we bought our car to ask them to replace the back bumper, supply and fit two new lights and put in censors so that it didn't happen again.
That took up the whole afternoon.   In the evening I did various jobs and there was no time left.

This morning we awoke to a covering of snow and a bitterly cold wind.  This afternoon should have been my exercise for the over sixties class but the tutor rang to say that she was stuck in a snow drift all of ten miles South of here.  By lunch time our snow had disappeared, so I presume that the same is true for her.   But the class had already been cancelled, so I visited friend M and we had a lovely afternoon chat.

I had just got back into the house when the phone rang and it was the owner of the two dogs to say that they had been found.   So the worry of that is over, thank goodness.

The farmer is despondent because after a week of drying weather the fields were just beginning to dry up enough to get on to (he wants to do some draining in the very wet spots);  now - after rain and then snow - the fields are wet and 'claggy' again and we are back to square one.   Such is the nature of farming.

Pat, you don't have to apologise for missing a post, it's not mandatory.
So glad that the two dogs are back home.

What a relief the dogs are back home, and hopefully no damage done to livestock.
The weather is infuriating - just as you think the ground is dry enough to work on, along comes another band of rain. Not so serious for gardeners but a real problem for farmers. I hope things settle down and become more seasonal soon.

As you and the farmer seem to imagine your car is a bumper car, I suggest that you actually purchase a secondhand bumper car from some fairground people. It will be one of the most unusual vehicles on the road in The Yorkshire Dales but at least it won't matter when you bump into walls, gateposts and fences in the future.

The thought of cycling in the snow is making me nervous as anything!

So I should think. I was worried sick.... no, not really Weave. You just have a nice time!

In weather like this I'm very glad that I'm no longer involved in farming. Getting on with the garden is hard enough.

So glad to hear good news about the missing dogs.
So very sorry to hear that the farmer is again waiting to be able to farm. I (we) know the feeling all too well!

Glad the dogs are home and that your car has been fixed. This is the time of changeable weather, from good to bad and back again.

Weaver, while February was giving up its extra day and March was arriving, I was having a working weekend, and am just now catching up on your posts.

I'm glad to learn that those two dogs were found, and hope that their disappearance just meant a happy reunion with their owns, and some extra supper.

You've taught me a new word, claggy, and thanks to your posts, I'll now be associating grouse and heather. Thank you for both additions that I do hope to remember.

Yes, March 21 will be the true start of Spring, but meanwhile, every warm day is welcome. It was sunny and blue sky Wednesday here, but the wind was so strong that the early morning temperature continued to dip, dip and dip again through the hours. After a quick subway train ride to and from a midday errand, I stayed indoors to do a dry run of preparing my U.S Federal tax forms. Yes...I owe a bit, but that's better than giving the government a free loan.

Glad that you all got that car fixed.

It snowed more than an inch overnight. By this evening it was gone, and the granddaughters pronounced it a waste of its time, snowing.

It rained almost all day here yesterday. Lady M's back from London today, so at least I'll have someone to talk to if it continues.

Missed you - but being busy is a good excuse - better than sitting around not knowing what to do. Wow - snow - we are in our rain rain rain rain season.

The snow I woke up to on March 1st was completely gone a few hours later, and has (not yet!) reappeared. It is cold, though, indeed colder than most December, January and February were.
Sorry to hear about the farmer not being able to do the work on his fields he meant to do. No rain - or not enough of it - would be just as bad though, wouldn't it.
Good to know the dogs are back. I hope the owner will never let them loose again, and also hope they have not caused any harm to other animals.

A dent or two on the car is annoying, but much better than on yourself !

Will those censors be sitting on the back seat saying " whoa" when you get close to backing into something?

Wise words from Derek (first comment). It's raining here and we have no water. Men are repairing the pipe. Big hole in the street.

Oh dear, sorry to hear about your car. Repairs can get to be so expensive. We just received another very big dump of snow. It is going to be a while until it feels like spring, here. -Jenn

As Frances says the censors should stop any loud rude words from you both. Retro fitting sensors could also generate a hefty bill.
The ground is very claggy here as well. Next week looks as if it will get worse. The dog hates it.
