Friday

Now and again today we have seen the sun and I must say it is beginning to get a little bit of warmth in it.   Then, just when you are beginning to get used to it, it disappears behind a cloud and a mist descends -and that is cold.

However, a trip to our Feed Merchants in Masham this afternoon, in the warm car, was pleasant.   How long the snowdrops have lasted this year.   They were out in early January and they are still out two months later, although at last beginning to fade.   I love the way they are scattered on the grass verges around here - often in the middle of nowhere (where people have thrown garden rubbish into the hedge-bottom I hazard a guess).

Daffodils are beginning to come out but are always slow up here.

On the way to Masham we always pass a tiny Roman Catholic Church which is most attractive and always reminds me of France - it has such a French look about it rather than an English look.  I'm sorry about the wire across the top of the picture but the farmer just slowed down for me to take it and to take a perfect shot he would have had to stop and I would have had to climb a fence into the field.  But you get the general idea!

Now home again, Tess has been walked, the woodburner has been stoked up, the farmer is just going down the yard to shut up the hens (6.45 and just dark) and then we are cosy for the night.   As you will see from the photograph, Tess has already chosen her place.

About an hour ago, while we were watching 'Pointless' our television gave up the ghost.   So there will be no viewing tonight and as the farmer is walking tomorrow, there will be no viewing over the week-end.   Hope we don't get too used to it or we shalln't bother to replace it - it is usually last on our list of things to do anyway.   And the News is always so depressing I sometimes think it is better not to watch it - in any case we take The Times and The Yorkshire Post - that tells us all we need to know (and more besides).

I am sure you have plenty of books for you to read in your house, and a radio, and the newspapers, so I hope you won't miss the tv too much. That has just reminded me to see if there is a replay of the first episode of Dr Thorne which I forgot to ask my husband to record last weekend when I was away in Hampshire. If not, it will have to be i-Player.

There were MASSES of Daffodils in bloom when we went to Brecon and then Hay-on-Wye today - a real delight to the eye.

No telly!!!! Phone 999! Quick! "Which service do you require?" "Curry's. Please be quick. This is an emergency!"

Nice to see that you have a peaceful Buddha figure on your mantlepiece Mrs W.

your fire looks very welcoming, I often have the TV on just for background noise but not watching it, I prefer the radio when I am in the cabin R4 is my prefered channel. We have had a couple of days of sunshine now and a good week end they promise :-)

We don't miss our TV very much and rely on internet news services for all our news. I really prefer to read, but I do miss watching cooking shows and mysteries. I would be lost without internet and kindle. I see that Tess has the right idea! Glad she is back to normal. Cheers!

Our fire is lit too. Just looked in the paper and can't see anything worth watching tonight.
Tell your friend that I bought the bee feeders on line from Heather Bell Bee equipment. They are a Cornish firm. We have just removed our mouse guards, but I guess they could be left on and placed to the side if they are fitted externally.

A pretty neat fire place, very cosy looking. I like the little mouse on the right, just above Tesse's head - I think it is a mouse?. Greetings Maria x

Miss Tess is a lovely girl, glad she's forgiven you. Your flowers are weeks ahead of ours even with the relatively mild winter we've had; I envy you that.

Lovely church and cosy house by the by.

I agree with you that Tess has found a grand place by the fire.

Sorry about your telly. I truly don't watch mine very much, and wish that the monthly cable tv charge were not so high. I use the same company for my internet connection...so I would miss being able to connect with folks like you much more than the tv!

No daff blooms here yet, but there are still quite a few snowdrops holding on to their flowers over in the Park.

Have a lovely weekend. xo

I could very easily not watch TV, but it's nice knowing it's there; just in case. We still have Snowdrops here, I noticed some more yesterday.

No tellie. gawd forbid. It's the 6 Nations today, couldn't possibly miss that and the fantastic new farming series that's on on Mon. Tues and Weds at the moment. Best farming programme that I've seen.

We sat for a rather long time reading by the fire, I could do without television. Our snow drops are just about finished.

That picture of your fire place looks so inviting! I could happily join Tess there on the rug for an hour or two.
I've been to Masham a few times during my regular Yorkshire holidays, and always found it a good place to visit, much more to see than you'd expect to find in such a small town (village?).

Just deleted my comment about the autograph book…….a lot of what I wrote was missing, so it didn't make sense .

Books are always the answer to TV, it looks cosy your fireplace, just sit and dream as the logs sparkle and crackle. Glad Tess is sorted, Lucy is off to the vet this morning with a bad paw.

I`m sure you will have enjoyed a quiet time without the television!
It looks so warm and relaxing by your woodburner. Perfect for a chilly spring evening.

I hope the Farmer enjoys his walking today.

We lost the signal for our TV last evening for a time. I can't think why as the weather wasn't bad at the time. It is fairly mild and dry today - if I had any energy I would be working in the garden.
That church is beautiful, and as you say, not at all English looking.
Tess is a wise dog - they always find a cosy spot. One of ours would lie inside the fender of the old fashioned fireplace in our first home.

Thick fog here this morning, which has only just (11.30) started to clear back to hazy sun.
Glad that you're getting a new tellie soon Pat.

I just saw my first snowdrops yesterday but there won't be daffodils for a while. For us, we would be replacing our tv quickly, I'm afraid to say. That fire looks lovely and inviting, however, so curling up with a book (and a dog) would be a great idea. -Jenn

I could live easily without my television, but not my computer.

The fire looks so inviting. Tess, a hot drink, such a fire and a good book and I'd be very happy too. It sounds like the TV won't be missed at all.
We are ahead of you out here, with snowdrops long gone and daffodils at their height. Heather is brilliant everywhere, camellias in full bloom while magnolias and rhododendrons in huge, fat bud. Love spring!
