Cold.

The cold has arrived here - and everywhere else it seems - today with a vengeance.   All the snow has gone and all day the sky has been a clear blue and the sun has been shining, so it has really been a glorious day providing one had plenty of layers of warm clothing on.

Coffee this morning with friends as usual - then after lunch a drive to our feed merchants through winter landscape of bare trees.   There is still plenty of flooding in the fields and in one or two places it is across the road, but the water is only shallow.   In the warm car it was a lovely journey.

The farmer has just passed me on his way upstairs for his shower and has informed me that minus seven is forecast for tonight.   When I stand at our front gate I can see the snow lying on the top of the Cleveland Hills - so I expect that Thelma (North Stoke on my side bar) may well have snow where she lives.   Keep warm Thelma.

Yes, seems clouds do serve a purpose. So, only at night. How did humans make it during winter in olden times? Stay in a dark hut all day? Glad I don't live back then - or have I? Reading LIFE AFTER LIFE. Made my trip to feed store yesterday and bought Timothy hay (compressed), 14% horse pellets and oats. If I don't find a forever home for the girls, they are going to break me, one way or another. Did the Farmer get black eyes from the head butt?

We were sub zero last night judging by the icy puddles, but not so bad my hands turned purple and froze. May get that tomorrow morning on my cycle to work though.

Lovely photos of your journey Pat.
So nice also, to have proper dry, clear and cold winter weather and not that continuous mild and wet stuff.

Your weather sounds so cold -7 !
But it is nice that you have the sunny blue skies to help with the gloom.
I love the winter trees against the blue sky and fields.

I wakened to clear skies, but before the sun could top the mountain across the valley the fog had rolled in and filled all the cracks and crevices, and covered that beautiful clear blue sky. I do look forward to spring!!

It certainly feels colder here this morning. It's still not light and I haven't yet been outside, but I won't be surprised to find frost.

Bitterly cold here this morning too, and blowing a gale. We have always been told that Spain is a cold country with sunshine, and today that's true.

A nice drive out and winter scenery is best enjoyed from inside a warm car! Off for more bird seed and compost today, so I think the feed stores do well out of us one way and another!

We have proper frost here this morning and bright sunshine, though there are a few clouds. Your photos show a perfect winter day - I love winter trees, you can see their shapes so much better without leaves. Isn't it good not to have rain and howling gales blowing constantly?

No Pat the snow line is up on the hills, the water line is the most worrying. Filled up ditches lap gently at the roads in the Pickering Vale, the fields in places are small lakes, there is nowhere for this water to go in this marshy terrain. But it is frozen and white and the sun shines so who is complaining!

Ended up being a round zero, so bearable on the bike, just. Had clear skies to search for comet catalina, but somehow missed it.

Those beautiful clear skies mean there will be a cold frosty night ahead. Greetings Maria x

Cold here too, but wonderful to see some colour in the sky after the grey blanket that has hung over us for so long. Driving home from Derby the other evening the sky was glorious with orange, pink, yellow and red splashed across the bright blue.
