A thick haze.

A short post today and an 'e and oe' one at that, because I have just come back from a visit to the optician in our town.   It was, I thought, only my yearly 'free' check up and eye test.   But I have come away £420 poorer as I am in urgent need of new specs after only a year.   My eye sight has deteriorated a lot.

I can hardly feel that it is money well-spent but on the other hand we must never neglect our eyes must we?   At present I have drops in which have dilated the pupils and made everything quite difficult to see.   Hopefully this will have gone off by jigsaw time!

So until tomorrow.....

I can understand that the lenses might be expensive but can never quite understand why the frames are so costly. However, as you say, taking care of our eyes is very important and I hope yours return to normal after the horrid puffer bit, and drops too - ready for jigsaw time.

I, too had an appointment today -- at the eye clinic. They were checking the eye pressure, which needs checking due to having glaucoma. This time it was also necessary to clarify the perscription for my drops -- which somehow had become totally confused between clinic and GP's surgery. Now all is clear and I am down to one drop in each eye once a day!

Looking forward to seeing your completed very difficult puzzle!

The last time I visited the opticians (2yrs ago) they put the wrong lens in for my left eye and it was very difficult to convince them of their error. So this time I am taking my business not only to a different firm but to another town too.

Our eyes are so precious, we have to take care of them.
I hope you feel better later so you can work on the new puzzle.

That is roughly what I had to pay and never again. It is blatant profiteering. There has to be a way round it. I'm going to negotiate for the eye test then take the prescription and check on-line for prices. It's not as if my frames are a quality item despite what the devil at the opticians claimed.

Oh what a pain, but still I think worth it. Eyes are important after all :o) There is an 'eye theme' going on in your family at present me thinks.

That seems very expensive. I asked my optician for a prescription and took it to Specsavers where two pairs of glasses were far cheaper than than one at the opticians.

I am in the US but have gotten glasses online at Zenni Optical. I have blended bifocals so it's not a simple prescription. I get the eye doctor to measure my pupil distance and check the glasses. They are less than a third the price I've paid in the past.

You are so right...I had a step-grandfather who went blind. His world shrank to nothing. It was so sad.

Is that the National Health cost? Gosh it's so high. Couldn't you just have new lenses put into your current frames if they're still good?
Eye care is expensive here too - fortunately my distance vision has reverted to almost 20/20 and I no longer require prescription lenses for driving, movies, TV etc. as I did in my forties thru sixties! Like John G. I can just pick up 2.5 magnifiers at the drugstore for close-up reading, knitting etc.

Good luck dear friend - your eyes are precious and I hope the new glasses, although costly, will help your vision.

I have heard Zenni online highly recommended by friends. That does seem quite expensive, although about what I paid for mine last time around.

Oh I need to go as my glasses don't work anymore. Last pair I got was a Japanese brand that cost a fortune after they added everything on. I wonder if I took a cheap pair of reading glasses frame in if they would use those and just add new lenses?

Argh! I have my quarterly appointment with my retina specialist next week. And then I need to see my regular optometrist, I know I need glasses, Lord knows what that will cost. So I feel your pain.

Due to a glaucoma diagnosis I received about 40 years ago, I have several eye doc check ups each year. I'm fortunate that the glaucoma is still under control and I can still use non-prescription "drug store" glasses. I think my next optical challenge will be cataract surgery, but it's not quite time yet.

Your new glasses do sound expensive...yet I value my vision so very much, and expect you value yours equally.

Let's concentrate on seeing many wonderful sights this year, and being glad that we've got doctors caring for our eyes.

I've had those drops twice, and came away blinded and having to wear dark glasses. Horrible.

Good luck with the new specs Pat. I just got my first pair of Ray Bans. Bifocals. About half the price of yours. Not allowed to wear them outdoors! Fear of accident! Only for sitting watching TV, concerts, theatre etc.. There's a book somewhere around here about exercises for improving eyesight but I can't find it. Maybe I need new glasses again!! I got yellow framed reading glasses so I can find them amongst all the clutter.

Thanks for the commiserations - and yes my eyes did return to normal in time for jigsaw time! Also the 'pain' of the price has softened a bit by today - at least I have the money as a friend pointed out this morning - not as if I am worried how I am going to pay.
